This is in aid of dementia uk to raise awareness and money with a bit of fun inspired by the mad hatter  tea party. So if it makes you  smile  please  give by text HGOP62 1.00 to 70070.
Hi Mark,

Thank you for your email, its great to hear that you would like to fundraise for us again J

With the summer upon us – we thought it could be a great opportunity for those that can, to hold a garden party style fundraiser.

There are different things you could in order to fundraise such as, ticket sales/entry charge – and then provide nibbles, a raffle/tombola (you could speak to local businesses to see if they would donate prizes), have a theme/fancy dress, afternoon tea style food or a bbq?

Did you have any ideas with what you wanted to do?

Look forward to hearing from you & thanks again for your support!

Best wishes,

Lauren

Moon may have water trapped under its surface, claims new study

Moon, water on moon, moon water, life on moon, Brown UniversityA new study of satellite data found that numerous volcanic deposits distributed across the surface of the Moon contain unusually high amounts of trapped water. (Representative Image)
The Moon may have huge reservoirs of water trapped under the surface in the form of volcanic ‘glass beads’, which could be extracted and used by astronauts in future lunar colonies, scientists have found. A new study of satellite data found that numerous volcanic deposits distributed across the surface of the Moon contain unusually high amounts of trapped water.
The finding of water in these ancient deposits, which are believed to consist of glass beads formed by the explosive eruption of magma coming from the deep lunar interior, bolsters the idea that the lunar mantle is surprisingly water-rich. Scientists had assumed for years that the interior -read more

INTERVIEW WITH RICHARD SMALL 4TH DAN WITH TAKEMUSU IWAMA AIKIDO EUROPE.

Interview with Richard Small    July 2017
4th Dan with Takemusu Iwama Aikido Europe.

Q. What inspired you to do aiki jo?
Training with weapons needs no mats, it is something you can practise alone or with a partner, you can practise in street clothes and footwear, anywhere you go, the forest, the beach, your home or garden - you can pick up any stick, broom handle, hoe, umbrella, walking stick, even a twig and enjoy your connection with the spirit of Aikido. As a teacher moving to the area alone it was an art that lent itself to teaching beginners who had neither equipment nor experience.
It is within the reach of almost any person, regardless of their age and ability.

Q. What are the aims of martial arts?
Qualities possible from martial arts practice.
Perception; awareness; confidence; patience; friendship; communication; adaptability; resilience; loyalty; reflection; humility; perspective; compassion; honesty; empathy; discipline, (external and self); humour; co-ordination, (of mind and body); flexibility; intuition.
These are transferable skills that will serve you well in life.
They are yours for the having.
Aiki Jo can also be used as an exercise system, training aspects of self defence, developing health defence, improving confidence, body awareness,
co-ordination, social and self awareness, balance and power, even engaging in a pathway to moving meditation and finding the path on which your spirit walks. Weapons encourage your ki (spirit energy) to extend beyond self.

Q. What  plans do you have for the future?
I started a martial art when I was in my twenties, probably for much the same reason as anyone else. I sought a security from the confrontations that often beset the minds of youths.
Martial arts are a great reality check for the Ego. You suddenly discover that the art you have taken up to defend yourself is full of people much more able than you. You try harder to catch up, to improve fitness, co-ordination and technical skills. Often, it is not for many years, when the spiritual side of the art becomes more apparent.  The mind/body/spirit connection makes you more calm, centred, and peaceful; And Yes, more powerful. Do not confuse strength with power. When you understand ‘Do nothing and everything is done,’ then you have arrived at the gateway you seek. After more than forty years of training, I plan to keep looking and try and make what I understand, possible through my actions. Still a long way to go – but the journey remains ever more important than the destination.

The Lock House Haunting interview

What Inspired Me? I have always loved writing and have always felt that my childhood was somewhat unusual. I moved to the Forest of Dean over 23 years ago and joined the Dean Writers Circle. During conversations the members learned a little about me and confirmed that how I had grown up was intriguing and indeed unusual. So in respect of actually putting the words on paper it was the members of the Circle who inspired me to write the book. However, I also feel that it was my memories themselves that I felt needed a voice outside of my head. So many times and in so many circumstances the young are ignored and can be left to feel isolated and intimidated. I felt that, and still feel that if one person reads my book and can in some way relate to it maybe they won’t feel as belittled as I used to feel when I was growing up. What are my aims? My aim was always just to tell my story. My book sat for over ten years completed but hidden from view because I was too scared to publish it. I was scared, not that I would not be believed but that it was not good enough and would not hold people’s interest. I have been astounded at the response it has received and has far outgrown any aims that I ever had. Last year I was invited to speak at The Ghost Club in London and the audience was treble the size that I had been informed it would be. Afterwards I was amazed at how many people had (and are still having) similar paranormal experiences. The only aim that I ever had has been achieved at a far bigger scale than I ever imagined. My Future Plans? As far as writing is concerned I would love to write on a full time scale. I have two completed novels sitting on a shelf that have never seen the light of day and one partially written novel that clamours to be finished. Unfortunately, time or rather lack of it, is my enemy. I simply do not have as much time to write as I used to and so I feel that this may have to wait until retirement. In the meantime I am very busy with my Paranormal team ROPE (Researchers of Paranormal Events.) We are working very hard but unlike a lot of groups we are very quiet and don’t advertise ourselves. We are currently working on an experiment which is being conducted over a period of two years and is showing some compelling results. I have discussed the experiment with various Parapsychologists and also at length with members of the Ghost Club. All have been incredibly supportive and are keen for the experiment to reach it to reach it fruition in December this year. As for the distant future? I always like to wait until it is a little closer before I make any plans but I will for as long as I can, continue to investigate the Paranormal and meet and share our evidence and experiences with the Paranormal Community.

Macho' switch in the brain that makes men aggressive and more competitive is pinpointed for the first time

The 'macho' switch in the brain which makes men aggressive has been discovered by scientists.
And the brain circuit could explain how some animals are able to become alpha males and exert control over others, the study found.
Researchers found stimulating the switch significantly boosted a mouse's chance of winning aggressive encounters and moving up the social hierarchy.
The discovery could lead to brain training to boost the performance of athletes, said the researchers.
It also offers hope of developing drug targets for pathological aggression - which is a component in Alzheimer’s, autism, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Feng shui

Feng shui or fengshui (pinyinfēngshuǐpronounced [fə́ŋ.ʂwèi]) is a Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment. It is closely linked to Taoism. The term feng shui literally translates as "wind-water" in English. This is a cultural shorthand taken from the passage of the now-lost Classic of Burial recorded in Guo Pu's commentary:[1] Feng shui is one of the Five Arts of Chinese Metaphysics, classified as physiognomy (observation of appearances through formulas and calculations). The feng shui practice discusses architecture in metaphoric terms of "invisible forces" that bind the universe, earth, and humanity together, known as qi.
Historically, feng shui was widely used to orient buildings—often spiritually significant structures such as tombs, but also dwellings and other structures—in an auspicious manner. Depending on the particular style of feng shui being used, an auspicious site could be determined by reference to local features such as bodies of water, stars, or a compass.
Qi rides the wind and scatters, but is retained when encountering water.[1]
Feng shui was suppressed in mainland China during the state-imposed Cultural Revolution of the 1960s but has since then regained popularity. Some critics have called feng shui a baseless superstition, stating there is no demonstrable evidence supporting its principles.-wiki link

How studying bats' flight technique could lead to drone development

Long-eared bats are assisted in flight by their ears and body, according to a study by researchers at Lund University in Sweden. The recent findings improve researchers’ understanding of the bats’ flying technique and could be significant for the future development of drones, among other things.Contrary to what researchers have previously thought, Christoffer Johansson Westheim and his colleagues at Lund University show that long-eared bats are helped in flight by their large ears.
“We show how the air behind the body of a long-eared bat accelerates downwards, which means that the body and ears provide lift. This distinguishes the long-eared bats from other species that have been studied and indicates that the large ears do not merely create strong resistance, but also assist the animal in staying aloft”, says Christoffer Johansson Westheim-read more and see video

URBAN BIGFOOT INTERVIEW

Thank you for asking! I was inspired when I was about 8 years old. I heard the stories around me that Bigfoot was in our woods at night. I started building a shack in the woods on my own at age 12. I listened and observed alot. Almost daily. I moved away and here in Mid Missouri I had heard of 2 sightings in my area within 30 miles of my home. I started hiking more and looking for tree damage, formations and nests. My goal is too capture a clear image of an interaction with the female I have seen from about 100 feet away. I had believed it was a male but due to the time of day, I changed that description to female. I firmly believe that after watching Missing 411 and comparing my own notes that the Bigfoot communities are underground. There is no other explanation that makes sense other than what I have been told as a child and facts that I have now. There has never been a sighting of a sleeping Bigfoot. No one has ever photographed evidence that they live above ground. My book Urban Bigfoot is based on this theory. As far as where I am going with it, I am unsure. New field research and conferences are planned for most of the next year. I wrote a simple children's book, The Bigfoot Farm to get children interested in our love for Bigfoot.

PETER CAREY INTERVIEW

My inspiration comes from many attributes. The 'scene' being just one of them. You see people going through their journeys and how modification is constantly evolving. Seeing people get body modification is inspirational in itself because you see how happy they are as a result and with the changes that take place with new and existing mods, you can't resist getting something new. My aims.. I'm proud to be modified and I'll happily continue with it as I find it very satisfying. I want to become a modification artist in the future. As a body piercer, I enjoy meeting people and being a part of the journey they take with the piercing. It's not just a piece of metal going into flesh; it's a trust bond and a personal moment shared between two people. I want to be a part of the modification journey that people take also. For the future I want to reach 101 piercings (I have over 80 at the moment) and more modifications. These include but not limited to magnetic implants under all finger tips, silicone implants under my hands, one of which is likely to be a north star styled implant (it flashes when activated by a magnetic implant) and more scarification. From there, I'll see where my journey takes me.

Extremely rare seahorse discovered off coast of Devon

An extremely rare breed of seahorse has been found in British waters.
The Short Snouted Seahorse – scientific name Hippocampus Hippocampus – was found by experts off the coast of Devon.
Its native habitat is the south west waters but there has been a sharp decline in sightings and it is currently endangered.
It is now normally found in the Mediterranean and grows to between 7cm and 13cm long.
Mark Parry, community Seagrass initiative project manager at the National Marine Aquarium, said: “It is with great excitement that we are able to announce our first seahorse sighting within one of our seagrass surveys.

A grave mistake about Dick Turpin! Historian who has written a book on the highwayman claims it is unlikely his body is under his headstone

The headstone of ‘John Palmer otherwise Richard Turpin the notorious highwayman and horse stealer’ who was ‘executed’ on 7th April 1739 is a fakeEven for a city steeped in history, the colourful story of Dick Turpin’s death and burial in York is a genuine highlight.
But the thousands of tourists who have visited the highwayman’s last resting place and taken photos of his inscribed gravestone, were doing so under false pretences it has been claimed.
For new research by the country’s leading expert, Professor James Sharpe, has concluded that the headstone of ‘John Palmer otherwise Richard Turpin the notorious highwayman and horse stealer’ who was ‘executed’ on 7th April 1739 is a fake.

Why frogs thrived after the dinosaurs were wiped out

Frogs around the world should be grateful for the forces that wiped out dinosaurs 66 million years ago.
That's according to new research from scientists in the United States and China that suggests whatever caused the mass extinction paved the way for the proliferation of frogs.
While frogs have been around for more than 200 million years, new research suggests that three main modern frog lineages — about 88 per cent of the living species of frogs — began to thrive shortly after the extinction event that signalled the end of all non-avian dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous Period.
While we know that about 80 per cent of the world's species were killed off in the mass extinction, what's not known is whether that extended to frogs, as there are few fossilized remains that have been found.
However, the researchers of this new study say that whether or not many frog species became extinct, the event gave rise to the frogs we know today.
"Maybe there was some extinction that happened there," says David Blackburn, co-author of the paper published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
"At the very least, what happened afterwards was that it seems like there must have been rapid diversification, where we had many new lineages evolve," said Blackburn, who is also associate curator of amphibians and reptiles at the Florida Museum of Natural History.-read more

Why Are These Male Fish Growing Eggs?

—Silver maples, lanky and bare, stand on the frozen flood plain at the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge. Two sets of tracks—fox and mouse—weave across the snowy surface of the river, which is home to bass, muskrats, and beavers. In the fall, more than 20,000 migrating ducks will converge here, and in the summer, one of the refuge’s rarest species, spiny softshell turtles, will bask and forage on its gravelly beaches and sandbars.-Sixty miles south of Montreal, near the U.S.-Canada border, Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most productive and pristine wetland ecosystems in the Northeast. Yet even here, scientists have found an abundance of fish with bizarre abnormalities that suggest exposure to hormone-disrupting water pollution.
Scientists from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Geological Survey studied fish in 19 national wildlife refuges in the U.S. Northeast, including Missisquoi. Their conclusion: An astonishing 60 to 100 percent of all the male smallmouth bass they examined had female egg cells growing in their testes.
Scientists call this condition intersex, and while its exact causes are unknown, it’s been linked to manmade, environmental chemicals that mimic or block sex hormones.
Over the past decade, feminized male fish have been discovered in 37 species in lakes and rivers throughout North America, Europe, and other -read more

How to Survive in a Humid Climate

Here's my best advice:
  1. Don't do strenuous exercise outside. If you want to do sports, find an indoor location. ...
  2. Wear loose, light clothing. Go for light colours and natural fabrics like cotton and linen. ...
  3. Drink lots of water. ...
  4. Stay inside at noon.

Dirty laundry: Are your clothes polluting the ocean?

In an indoor "Manchester-drizzle-simulating" rain room at the University of Leeds, and in a laundry lab in Plymouth, research is revealing the unexpected environmental cost of the very clothes on our backs.
"Not many people know that lots of our clothes are made of plastic," says Imogen Napper, a PhD student at Plymouth University, "polyester, acrylic."
Ms Napper and Prof Richard Thompson study marine microplastics - fragments and fibres found in the ocean surface, the deep sea and the marine food chain.
And in a recent lab study, they found that polyester and acrylic clothing shed thousands of plastic fibres each time it was washed- sending another source of plastic pollution down the drain and, eventually, into the ocean.
"My friends always make fun of me because they think of marine biology as such a sexy science - it's all turtles, hot countries and bikinis," says Ms Napper.
"But I've been spending hours washing clothes and counting the fibres."
It might not be exotic, but this painstaking "laundry-science" has revealed that an average UK washing load - 6kg (13lb) of fabric - can release:
  • 140,000 fibres from polyester-cotton blend
  • nearly half a million fibres from polyester
  • more than 700,000 fibres from acrylic-read more

Cavemen visited ancient dentists and cleaned their gnashers with toothpicks made from BONE

Experts found Neanderthals used toothpicks crafted out of bone, wood or grass to tackle troublesome teeth.Lab tests reveal multiple grooves and other marks on ancient Neanderthal gnashers that prove our prehistoric relatives were trying to tackle their sore gums.
Scientists claim the scratches on the teeth indicate they were likely causing discomfort for some time for the sufferer.
And they were using primitive dentistry to treat it.
As well as having several toothpick grooves, they found the premolars and molars were pushed out of their normal positions.
Professor David Frayer, an anthropologist at Kansas University, said: “The toothpick grooves…show us Neanderthals were doing something inside their mouths to treat the dental irritation.
“The scratches indicate this individual was pushing something into his or her mouth to get at that twisted premolar.read more

Space-faring humans will become Cybermen, says top astronomer

A race of “Cybermen”, resembling Doctor Who’s famous foes, will exist for real in the future, according to Britain’s top astronomer. Lord Martin Rees predicts that the first settlers on Mars, and other planets, will reengineer their bodies to cope with hostile conditions found in deep space.Lord Rees, who is Astronomer Royal, says humans will eventually evolve into a new species of super-powerful beings combining genetic and cyber technology.
And if ET exists, he is also more likely to be detected in an advanced electronic form than in any organic phase of existence.
In the season finale of Doctor Who, which concludes on Saturday, the Doctor stumbles upon the genesis of the original Cybermen aboard a vast spaceship escaping a black hole.

Charles Beaver Oracle Fusion Middleware & JBoss Consultant

Here is my intro. I worked in the motion picture industry, between short IT related contracts, off and on, for over a decade, as a stuntman, in Houston, Texas, some time ago. Doing a martial arts side kick off the top of a 2 story racket ball court, in West Texas, was the most dangerous stunt that I ever did. I'm the only actor in the world who can say that you can see me live in a theater 6 days a week, as the death scene, at the end of the movie, until the Russians and Chinese over run the U.S. It's a movie, called "Texas Forever" that is played at the world's tallest columnar monument, the San Jacinto. monument in San Jacinto, TX. The 35 millimeter movie was cut up into a high speed slide show.
My movie BIO is at http://profoundstates.com/hsa.htm if you're interested. I always thought that my life would be an awesome movie. But I think that it would create problems for many people. In other words, it would tend to scare the you know what out of many people if it were filmed, in first person, exactly as I experienced it. I've gone through some pretty hair raising experiences. And many of these stretch your mind close to the breaking point. Such would be the same effect on anyone else who were put through the same bizarre experiences. My wife and I have been plagued by paranormal activities all our lives; both before and after we met. I've been working on a book for over 30 years. Getting the last chapter completed is an impossible task. It's about ETs and the paranormal. I'm attempting to put many moving pieces together. I think that it's an excellent work. But I don't know that I will ever get a chance to complete it. Two men have edited it thus far. One is the smartest person that I've ever met. The other wrote the world's most voluminous book on herbs. You may enjoy my web page at http://profoundstates.com. If there's any topic listed that you enjoy discussing, please let me know.
