Dirk

Dirk awoke with a start. As he glanced at the clock, he noticed it was already 4am. He had been tossing and turning in his bed all night, the weight of his thoughts unbearable.

The nightmare seemed even more real, as he had just received an official diagnosis that afternoon.

He had cancer.

After finally drifting back to sleep, Dirk woke up again and the first thought that entered his mind was the prognosis. He had never thought he would be part of a diagnosis like this. Despair and helplessness filled his heart.

He tried to compose himself, to remain optimistic but his thoughts kept dancing around in his head, each one worse than the last. Then, when he finally closed his eyes again, he was overcome with terror.

Images of his life on borrowed time] flashed before him. He felt the grip of an unseen force in his chest squeezing out every bit of life he had left.

As his breathing became quicker, harder, he heard a faint moaning sound. His heart raced. He opened his eyes to see what could be causing this sound. He expected to find an intruder in his room, but what he saw was even more nightmarish.

In front of him, his skin and clothes had been replaced with a menacing black mass that bore a disturbingly familiar shape, a human figure. The figure shifted and twisted before him, its hunger for life obvious, and he let out an ear-piercing scream.

The figure was cancer, and it had come to take his life.

Daisy

Daisy Clark had been in a coma for over a month when the doctor declared her dead. She was buried on a cool summer day in a small cemetery about a mile from her home.

“May she always rest in peace,” her husband said. But that was not how it turned out. Late that night, a grave robber armed with a shovel and a flashlight began to dig her up. As the earth was still loose, he quickly reached the coffin and opened it. His hunch was right. Daisy had been buried wearing two valuable rings: a diamond wedding ring and another studded with a brilliant ruby.

The thief knelt down and reached inside the coffin to take the rings, but they were completely stuck on Daisy’s fingers. He decided that the only way to get them was to cut off her fingers. But when he took out his knife and began to saw at the flesh, it began to bleed, and Daisy began to twitch. Suddenly, she sat up! Terrified, the thief scrambled to his feet, accidentally knocking his flashlight which went out.

In the dark, he could hear Daisy emerge from her grave. The thief stood frozen, clutching the knife in his hand. On seeing him there, Daisy covered herself with her shroud and asked, “Who are you?” Hearing the “corpse” speak, the grave robber ran. Daisy shrugged and kept walking, not bothering to look back.

Seized by fear and confusion, the thief fled in the wrong direction and fell headfirst into the open grave, onto his own knife. As Daisy walked home, the thief bled to death.

Blackwell

Blackwell staggered away. What had happened? Was there really a curse on him? For the next few days, Blackwell stayed away from the house and all the friends who had been with him at the beginning of his trip. He was too scared to face them. He then heard that a funeral was to be held for the people who had died in the elevator. It was for the same people who had been in the hearse. That night Blackwell returned to the house. He couldn't help thinking that his destiny was somehow connected to the fate of the people in the hearse. As he entered the yard, he saw the hearse parked in the same spot. He walked up to it and opened the door. Inside sat a skeletal figure with a pale white face. It was the driver, and he smiled directly at Blackwell. “I told you there was room for one more,” he said. Blackwell screamed and ran out of the yard. He never returned to that place again. He was convinced that the curse of the hearse and its passengers was upon him. From that day on, he was a shadow of his former self. It seemed that no matter how far away he ran from the cursed house, the shadows of its past always followed him.

Ouija board

Some time ago, a friend of mine and I decided to do the Ouija board for the first time, something we had never dared to do before. We called two other friends to come and do it with us as I had been told that it was more likely something would happen if there were more people. We had a hard time convincing the other two, but, in the end, they agreed to come along. We got everything ready and, feeling a bit nervous, got started.

During the session, one of the girls we had called to join us said: “This is nonsense. I’m out of here.” We got a little scared and decided to leave it for another time.

After a few days, the girl who had left called me, beside herself. She said that, as she was passing a derelict house near her home on the way back from the local library, a little girl dressed in white had asked to play with her. My friend told her that she couldn’t as she was in a hurry to get home, and immediately the girl began to cry tears of blood. My friend fled and when she got home, she called me. At first, I thought she was pulling my leg, but something told me that was not the case.

I began to think about the day we had done the Ouija board and how abrupt my friend had been when she had got up to leave. I didn’t give it much more thought and went to bed. The next day, my friend called me because she was going to be home alone studying and, as she was scared, she asked me to keep her company. I took a bus over to hers and we settled down with our books. After a while, we heard a scratching noise behind us. We both looked up and were horrified to find that the girl she had described to me was sitting on my friend’s bed, scratching the wall. We ran out of the room and when we got to the front door, I noticed that my friend was not there, but I was so terrified, I couldn’t make myself wait for her.

Shortly afterwards, the police called my house to tell me that my friend had died of an asthma attack. She had been found on the stairs of her house, with a terrified expression on her face. For several months after that, I was in treatment. I am now recovering, but the other day, a note appeared in my mailbox written in a little girl’s hand that read, “Your friend died because she wouldn’t play with me. I have a new doll...” I think it’s a joke, since our story has become famous in our town, but on the other hand I’m scared. I wonder, will she come for me?

The girl

The girl grew up healthy and happy, making frequent visits to her grandmother, who seemed to have no further problems. Years later, as the girl prepared to leave for college, her grandmother made her a gift. It was a sewing box, crafted from wood, with intricate designs on the sides. When the girl opened the box, she discovered a skeleton key lying atop a thick piece of paper. On the paper was a note from her grandmother, written in a shaky scrawl.

'My dear granddaughter, from time to time you will hear stories of horror that take place within the walls of this apartment. I want you to know that these stories are true, and to use this key to protect yourself from whatever dark force lurks in the shadows of this place. I'm sorry not to have been able to reveal it to you sooner, but I promise you that you will be safe now.'

The girl went to college and forgot all about the strange note, but when she returned home, she found that it had haunted her dreams. She kept the key to herself, not sure what it meant, but something inside her warned her not to forget it.

The girl continued to visit her grandmother, who grew ever more distant and elderly. One evening, she asked the girl to go to the bathroom and turn on the lights before she went to bed. Strangely, a chill ran through the girl that made her hesitate before she agreed.

When the girl got to the bathroom, she noticed a faint glimmer in the corner of the wall. She stepped closer and realized it was coming from an old lock, with the keyhole shaped like a small bony hand. She immediately recognized the key her grandmother had given her, and knew that this was the dark force her grandmother had told her about.

Shaking with fear, the girl opened the door and stepped inside, discovering a long and narrow hallway. Lights flickered, and the walls seemed to be made of bones. Feeling her way along, she soon found the exit at the end of the hallway. From there, the girl was safe.

The next morning, when the girl told her grandmother about the strange hallway, the old woman smiled and said that she had been waiting for this moment. She then revealed that she was the dark force, created eons ago by a powerful witch, cursed to remain in the walls of her own home. The witch had placed her bony hand into the lock to keep her from escaping.

The little girl had unknowingly broken the curse and set her grandmother free. The old woman lived out her last few years in peace, surrounded by family, before passing away.

The girl never forgot the lesson her grandmother taught her, and found courage in the darkness that surrounded her. After all, it was only in the deepest shadows that the light of a new dawn could be found.

The babysitter

The babysitter realized in horror that the man had been in the same house as her the whole time! She raced upstairs and soon discovered the source of the calls: the master bedroom. She cautiously opened the door and there, in the eerie light of the moon, she saw the man holding a knife in one hand and the phone in his other. He lunged at her and with a quivering voice, he whispered “I’ve taken care of the kids...now I’m coming for you.”

The babysitter shrieked and quickly slammed the door shut. She called the police and waited in fear for their arrival. When the police arrived, they searched the house and found the man hidden in a closet in the master bedroom. As it turns out, the man was the children's father, and he had been living in the mansion for months without anyone knowing. Apparently, he had been trying to scare the babysitter so she would leave and he could have his family back.

The man was arrested and taken away, but the babysitter was left shaken by the experience. She continued to take babysitting jobs in the area, hoping to shake off the memories of that terrifying night. Little did she know, however, that those same experiences would eventually lead her to a career as a horror novelist.

Years later, she wrote a book based on her own experience. It became an instant classic, a grim tale of horror and dark comedy in the style of Tales from the Crypt. It was her tales of supernatural events and eerie happenings that kept readers captivated, reminding them that true terror can sometimes be just around the corner.

Rumour

The rumor of the old man who had been buried alive seized the girls in a terror unlike anything they had ever felt before. All night, they talked about the supposedly undead man, trapped underground with grave dirt heavy upon his shoulders. When the conversation turned to the buried man’s struggles against his undead curse, one of the girls—brave and bold—offered to prove it by going to the graveyard while the others remained safe and sound.

The other reached an unsteady agreement, and one of the girls left for the cemetery. Tiredness eventually pushed the group to sleep, dreams of the old man’s still beating heart falling on their ears even as they drifted off.

But morning came, and the brave girl had still not returned. It seemed like something horrid had happened, so the other girls reluctantly gathered their courage and went to the graveyard. To their horror, they discovered their friend lying upon the fresh-turned grave. It was clear that she had died of fright.

And then, amongst the dead silence, they heard a faint scratching sound coming from the grave. Their eyes widened as the realization settled in –the old man was still alive.

In a macabre scene, they tipped the coffin onto its side and yanked out the buried man. He staggered as he emerged, his face twisted in fear and confusion. The poor soul had lost his mind after being buried conscious, yet miraculously he was safe.

Warning bells rang in the minds of the girl’s parents—a warning to never again take risks or dare fate in the dead of night. The girls vowed to never forget the tragedy of their friend, and not to take the safety of home for granted.

But the old man who had been buried alive would never forget that fateful night. The night he had been denied his eternal rest, his sanity, and his life.

Sara

Sara got out of bed in a state of shock. She had let her guard down and had not paid attention to her environment; the murderer had taken advantage of her daughterly act of love to enter her room without being heard or noticed. She ran to the living room and called the police. They arrived just in time to stop the murderer from getting away.

Sara, from a small town in [....], had always been a timid soul, easily scared by the dark. That's why her parents decided to get her a dog, an old one in need of company and protection.

Sara loved her dog and felt much more protected with him close. Every night before sleeping, she would reach out her hand and her loyal companion would start licking it until she dozed off.

Years went by in this way and the dog, although old, was still constantly by Sara's side. One night as she listened to the radio, a report came on warning of a dangerous murderer said to have been sighted in the nearby area.

But Sara found strength in the company of her dog and went to bed without fear. Like every night, she stretched out her hand, and what usually was the comforting feel of her dog's tongue, this time was a strange wet, cold feeling.

Frightened, Sara could not comprehend what was happening until, with a shriek, she lifted the bedsheets and looked under the bed. There, her beloved dog lay lifeless, while a strange man's tongue licked her hand.

Overcome with panic, she grabbed her cell phone and called the police. Just in time they came and apprehended the murderer, who had taken advantage of her innocent act of love and trust.

From that day on, Sara never again felt entirely safe in the dark, but she was comforted by the thought that her dog was still watching over her.

Bean Horror

The air was chill and heavy, a never ending winter that seemed to plague the town of Willowvale. A small hamlet, nestled away in the forest, it was the perfect spot for a family looking for some peace and quiet. But lately, the townsfolk had taken to whispering of strange occurrences. Crows cawing in the night, strange lights in the dark and, most eerie of all, a peculiar smell that seemed to follow them, haunting them in their every waking moment.

John Brown, a resident of the small town, was used to the occasional oddities but nothing could have prepared him for what he encountered that fateful night. Having to stay late at the office, John decided to walk home as he had done countless times in the past. The streets were unnaturally quiet, the wind more piercing than usual and the chill from the snow icier than ever before. As John neared the edge of town, he noticed something was off.

It was the smell. Stale, pungent and utterly revolting, it was as though the entire town had been filled with the stench of rotten beans. John was about to stop and investigate further when he heard a noise coming from behind him. He spun around to see a horrific sight standing in the shadows.

The creature was massive, its body covered in black leathery skin and a gaping maw filled with jagged yellow teeth. Its eyes were hollow, lifeless pits while its claws was sharp like razors. The creature simply stood there, breathing heavily, its beady eyes staring right at John.

As John stumbled back in terror, the creature suddenly licked its lips and said in a deep rasping voice, “You smell like beans.” With that, the creature lunged at John, its claws tearing through his clothes as it brought him to the ground. In a split-second, the creature spun around and vanished into the night, leaving a trail of rotting beans in its wake.

John never saw the creature again, but the memory would haunt him forever. He had a suspicion the creature was connected to the strange occurrences that had been occurring around Willowvale, and as time passed, more questions began to arise. What were the beans for? What did they mean for the fate of the town?

What John did know is that, from that day forward, he never went anywhere without a packet of beans and garlic bulb in tow.
