NIGHT OF THE RAT
The night was stormy, winds bashing the house,rain falling out the sky as if you were under a shower
Inside the house a lonely housewife starts to hear scurrying in the walls and in the attic, she turns to her husband waking him up from hus deep snoring sleep.
Claire "I think I can hear rats in the house "
Steven "Darling it's just the wind ,now get back to sleep "
The next morning Claire browsed through the telephone book to look for an exterminator, but Steven says thier too expensive and says he will set up a few mousetrap s instead around thier house.
After Steven leaves the house, Claire hears noises coming from the the cabinet s inside her kitchen and jumps out of her skin when she sees a drinking glass shatter and tiñ cans of food knocked off thier shelves.
Later after returning from work Steven under order s from his stressed wife sets up the mousetrap s he promised to do in the attic and around the house.
The next day Steven checks the mousetrap s he finds a mangled rats cadaver remains in one,and decides to throw the said rat in the bin.
The family cat,Rosie is getting curious about all the pungent smell s and strange squealing noises so she decides to investigate the house s crawlspace ,unfortunately for Rosie she is mauled to death by one of the rat's.
Next time a mixture of screaming and yells of tears are heard by Mary and Stevens daughter Brooke as she discovered her beloved cat Rosie was missing, As Steven finishes washing the dishes to avoid his emotional daughter he discovers the kitchen sink is clogged with rat's hair,he again hides the evidence as too not scare his wife but mostly to save some money as he was a cheapskate at heart.
Claire being worried about how upset her daughter was about the cat and decided to look up the crawlspace as that's was were she thought Rosie may have gone ,to her disgust she finds the chewed ,mangled, cadaver remains of Rosie s corpse in the distance she hears ominous noises and sees what appears to be a large shadow of a creature with red glowing eyes in the darkness but she puts thus down to the shock of finding poor Rosie, she also decides to tell her daughter a little white lie that she had seen Rosie going other next door s garden fence,and she must be on one of her hunting expedition s and will be back soon,Brooke was happy with this explanation.
Later that day Brooke retired to her room to go to bed when she discover s that all her toys are torn are shredded into tiny pieces.
When her mother investigates she finds it odd the only toy left alone was a stuffed rat doll,just then the lights started flickering on and off.
Finally deciding something or her thoughts about rat's were right she calls an exterminator who precedes to inspect thier home and discover s that a rat had managed to gnawed through pipes and power cables thus causing the flickering lights, he also finds a large saliva covered hole behind one of the kitchen s cupboards as as Steven returns from a hards day graft at his nine to five job.
Steven upon seeing the exterminator and being mad about his wife going behind his back at hiring him and at how much thus was going to cost him ,Steven demands the exterminator leaves,which he promptly does as not wishing to be on the Middle of a family quarrel.
Brooke decides to sleep in the guest room that very night for two reasons, the frist being she was hoping Rosie would be back, the second her room was near her parents and it was horrible hearing them arguing, as it upset her so much.
Meanwhile Claire is watching the television, as Steven was in thier bedroom sulking like all man do when feel bad about making thier wife's upset, Claire saw a documentary about a creature known as The Devil Rat whom according to myth and legend were large, malevolent rat's of great strength and cunning and terrorized many individuals in seventh century Europe and it was believed that ti's rat had mystical power s that meant it could not be destroyed.
Steven overhears this as he steps into the sitting room, and then suddenly the whole family hear jumbled notes coming from the piano in the drawing room and Steven tells Claire and his Daughter Brooke to stay were thier are as he goes to investigate, he discovers the keys of the piano have been gnawed at,then the China cabinet crashes to the floor with almighty crash, and leaving shattered pieces of glass and porcelain mixed together on the carpet flooring.
Steven now feels himself feeling a bit paranoid about the real possibility of rats in his home,the one he inherited from his beloved mother in her will ,so Steven decided to double check for signs of rats and found salvia covered holes in the walls then the television goes on and off adding to his fears and that of his wife and daughter, Steven goes and tells hus wife and daughter to upstairs and shut themselves in and stay thier until the he says the coast is clear, this Claire and Brooke do in a state of shock and fright.
Meanwhile Steven opens up his gun locker and brings out his shotgun and goes on a hunt for the creature that is haunting his house and his nightmare s ,the door to the guest room slams shut ,so Steven runs up the flight of stairs, kicks down the door and before his stunned eyes he comes face to face with a rat eight long standing on its hindlegs staring back at him with Ruby red glowing eyes, in Steven state of mind he knew thus was the Devil Rat or Rodent as it was referred too in the documentary he saw earlier in the week.
Steven tries to raise his shotgun to blast this hideous creature but the great Rat proceeds to demonstrate psychic abilities such as making Steven not able to move an inch and opening and closing windows, lifting up furniture damaging the room then the demon Rat let's out a ear piercing roar that sends chills down Steven s bones.
Then Steven hears a voice speaking in his mind and he realizes its the creature mentally communicating with him,it tells him its looking for its baby .
The Devil Rat then receives thought images back from Steven how he had laided down mousetrap s and how one had killed its baby, and its baby was now in the rubbish bin of all the other household waste.
With lighting speed the Devil Rat is upon Steven s throat,Steven tries to struggle but to no avail for he is no match for the gnawing teeth and claws of the Devil Rat,who looks down at Steven s cadaver.
The Devil rodent unleashed one final roar and disappearing out the smashed window leaving a trail of broken glass and a small amount of crimson red blood, frightened Claire and Brooke come thundering down the stairs and upon discovering thier dead husband, dad shred instantly tears of grief.
This incident was recorded by the local authority and media as an unfortunate death and it only went on to expand the myth and legend of the the Devil Rat.
