no queen on throne at southend -on -sea essex?

i was as an ex essex who lived 3 miles from southend-on-sea ,essex shocked to read that the local town council wish to get rid of the traditional carnival queen for ambassador.the coronation has been at centre of  the summer annual bash since 1920 so keep it.
