What Does a 170-Year-Old Champagne Found on the Bottom of the Sea Taste Like?
Every wine connoisseur knows the value of an aged wine, but few get the opportunity to sample 170-year-old Champagne from the bottom of the sea.
In 2010, divers found 168 bottles of bubbly while exploring a shipwreck off the Finnish Aland archipelago in the Baltic Sea. When they tasted the wine, they realized it was likely more than a century old.
A chemical analysis of the ancient libation has revealed a great deal about how this 19th-century wine was produced. [The 7 Most Mysterious Archaeological Finds on Earth]
“After 170 years of deep-sea aging in close-to-perfect conditions, these sleeping Champagne bottles awoke to tell us a chapter of the story of winemaking,” the researchers wrote in the study, published today (April 20) in the journal -READ MORE-https://www.yahoo.com/food/what-does-a-170-year-old-champagne-found-on-the-116996097686.html
Swarms of deadly Asian hornets could make a beeline towards Ireland
Swarms of deadly hornets that are becoming very prominent in France could survive in Ireland and the UK, experts have warned.
Asian hornets, which have caused the death of six people in France, are spreading rapidly throughout mainland Europe and there are fears the creatures could survive in Ireland’s climate should a queen wasp arrive here.
Although the Asian hornet’s sting can be fatal to humans who are allergic, the creature is a particular threat to honeybees.
“The Asian hornet can kill up to 40 honey bees per minute which is 2,400 every hour and so they are a huge threat to any honey bee colony,” said Philip McCabe President of the Apimondia European Commission.
“The Asian hornet’s sting can be fatal, but only to people who are allergic, much like those who go into anaphylactic shock following a bee sting,” he said.
“There is always a possibility that the Asian hornet could arrive here. A queen wasp would probably have to accidentally travel in a suitcase or shipment, which has been known to happen. It’s very unlikely, but it could happen,” he said.
Although the Asian hornet has yet to be spotted in Britain, the UK’s National Bee Unit is implementing possible response strategies in case the predator does make its way to the Britain.
Typically, queens build nests in April and rapidly lay eggs until the colony’s population reaches 6,000. In July, the hornets begin to hunt honey bees, killing them and slicing them up to feed their larvae, which respond to proteins.
The hornets were first sighted in France in 2004, and are believed to have travelled in pottery from China where they originate. Since then, their presence has been growing in Spain and Belgium also-READ MORE-http://www.independent.ie/life/health-wellbeing/swarms-of-deadly-asian-hornets-could-make-a-beeline-towards-ireland-31163454.html

6 Ways Pets Can Improve Your Health
Have you ever noticed that you feel better when you're around your pet?
It's true. Spending quality time with a dog, cat or other animal can have a positive impact on your mood and your health. Pets can be calming stress-fighters.
"We found that pet owners, on average, were better off than non-owners, especially when they have a higher-quality relationship with their pets," says pet researcher Allen R. McConnell, PhD. He's a professor of psychology at Miami University. "What [makes] a meaningful relationship varies from person to person.”
For some active people, that includes playing ball or Frisbee in the park. For others who can’t get outside, just petting your dog can help you feel connected.
Pets can help you in other ways, too.
1. A Healthier Heart
Your dog may make you less likely to get heart disease. Why? Dog owners walk more and have lower blood pressure than people who don't have dogs.READ MORE-http://www.webmd.com/hypertension-high-blood-pressure/features/6-ways-pets-improve-your-health
tales-from-the-tour-bus-rock-n-roll-on-the-road
Rock legend and tour bus aficionado Rick Wakeman takes us on a time-travelling trip through the decades in this first-hand account of rockers on the road from the late 1950s to the 80s and beyond.
It's an often bumpy and sometimes sleepless ride down the A roads and motorways of the UK during the golden age of rock 'n' roll touring - a secret history of transport cafes, transit vans, B&Bs, sleepless roadies and of loved ones left at home or, on one occasion, by the roadside. And it's also a secret history of audiences both good and bad, and the gigs themselves - from the early variety package to the head clubs, the stadiums and the pubs.
This is life in the British fast lane as told by Rick and the bands themselves, a film about the very lifeblood of the rock 'n' roll wagon train. With members of Dr Feelgood, Suzi Quatro, the Shadows, the Pretty Things, Fairport Convention, Happy Mondays, Aswad, Girlschool, the Damned and many more.see on link-http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05rjc9c

Is it OK to collect Nazi memorabilia?
Nazi memorabilia". But is it unacceptable to collect material from the Third Reich?
There's been a rise in interest in Nazi memorabilia
|
Marc Garlasco is not the first person to get into trouble for an interest in an aspect of the Third Reich.
Two years ago Bryan Ferry was pilloried for expressing admiration for the films of Leni Riefenstahl and the buildings of Albert Speer and other aspects of iconography. And in 1999, then GQ editor James Brown had to resign after Rommel and the Nazis were referred to in a list of the century's 200 most stylish men.
Thousands of military history buffs collect war paraphernalia because we want to learn from the past

But on both sides of the Atlantic there is a burgeoning market in Third Reich-era memorabilia. Mr Garlasco is one of thousands of collectors who are seeking rare items from the period.
His hobby has outraged bloggers, who also accuse him of anti-Israel bias, and he has defended himself in a piece on the Huffington Post blog by saying that suggestions he has Nazi sympathies are "defamatory nonsense". Instead, he says he has a long-standing interest in World War II memorabilia from both the German and Allied sides.
"I've never hidden my hobby, because there's nothing shameful in it, however weird it might seem to those who aren't fascinated by military history," he wrote.

Instant Coffee No More: Italian Astronaut Gets Espresso Machine on Space Station
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Mornings are about to improve for the Italian astronaut who’s been suffering through instant coffee at the International Space Station since fall. An espresso machine is on the supply capsule scheduled for launch Monday.
The specially designed, Italian-made espresso maker is intended for Samantha Cristoforetti, who arrived last November. It was supposed to fly in January, but ended up on backlog following another company’s launch explosion last year.
The espresso maker is dubbed ISSpresso — ISS standing for International Space Station. Italian coffee giant Lavazza joined forces with the Turin-based engineering company Argotec and the Italian Space Agency to provide a specially designed machine for use off the planet. NASA certified its safety.READ MORE -https://www.yahoo.com/food/instant-coffee-no-more-italian-astronaut-gets-116300482526.html

Molly was only 6 months old and just had her sprayed... so we slowly started letting her out in the garden and let roam free. it was the 16th of October as i can remember the day so easily as the day before was my sons 3rd birthday. it was 9am and she started to walk funny and trying to be sick so i rushed her to vets the vets wasnt sure and set her home. during the next hour she was swaying then she couldnt move she looked like she was drunk and fall over.... so i cuddled her until we could get into the vets again.
While at the vets she had a blood test and £500 later the vets came back to us with the bad news she was poisoned with antifreeze and she was in Kidney failure and nothing they can to help. by 2.30pm she was put down and we took her room and buried her in the garden. I was dreading telling My Daughter she was only 4 at the time she was very close to Molly, but we had to.... That was the worse time in my live seeing my baby cry because some horrible person poisoned her closes friend.

Thunderbirds Are Go!
Remake of the hit 1960's "Supermarionation" television show. In the 21st century, Jeff Tracy, a former astronaut, amasses a colossal fortune and decides that he must use it to benefit others. His answer to this desire is to create International Rescue, a unique private emergency response service equipped with customized designed vehicles and equipment that enable the organization to react to any crisis whether it be in sea, air, land, or space. Jeff's five sons volunteer to operate as the pilots and field agents, as well as "Brains" who acts as the teams' technical developer and engineer. In addition, Jeff's friend, Kyrano and his daughter Tanusha aka Kayo (based on the original series Tin-Tin character) agree to be the support staff. In addition to the field team, IR also maintains an intelligence network with Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward and her ex-con chauffeur, Parker as the chief agents in this arm. The series depicts this team as they answer various calls for help around and beyond the world while they prevent enemies like the Hood, Uncle to Kayo, from learning and exploiting their secrets. We join the story when Jeff is missing - presumed dead - and his family are having to continue with his legacy still hoping he might be found safe. Kayo is now head of security and Grandma (who is a poor cook) is in charge of mealtimes!-https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/thunderbirds-are-go-MY OPINION WAS I ENJOYED THE MODELS KEEPING TO ORIGINAL IDEA,LIKED KEEP VOICE FOR 54321 AND PARKER DISLIKE MOVIE TIE IN CHARACTERS AND COMPUTER CARTOON WAS STRANGE AS WAS FOND OF THE STRINGS ,YES STILL THUNDERBIRD'S FAN BUT OLD SCHOOL.
Stolen dog flags down RSPCA van 100 miles from home
A stolen dog displayed an impressive nose for safety after flagging down an RSPCA van on a deserted road more than 100 miles from home.
Alfie the Yorkshire terrier was swiped in a raid on his owner's home in Wednesbury, in the West Midlands, last month.
But after being set loose he managed to get RSPCA inspector Stephanie Law to stop by barking in front of her vehicle in Buckinghamshire.
Alfie jumped in when she braked and opened her door to investigate.

Dogs get jealous and 10 other facts you probably never knew about man's best friend
Dogs suffer from jealousy and are just as likely to turn into a green eyed monster as humans, according to scientists in California.
Researchers studied 36 dogs from 14 breeds and found that most were indifferent when their owners ignored them until the owners showered their attention on a stuffed dog.
Then the pet pooches' behaviour changed dramatically, sparking snapping and snarling. The discovery shows that while dogs are man’s best friend, they still have the capacity to surprise us.
Here are some other facts you might not know about Fido.
1) Dogs don’t feel guilt
Your pet pooch may get jealous, but researchers found those puppy dog eyes are not a sign of guilt. In fact they are just the way we interpret a dog’s reaction to being scolded.READ MORE-http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/dog-facts-10-amazing-things-3908754

Down's syndrome-PLEASE SUPPORT
Introduction
Down's syndrome, also known as Down syndrome, is a genetic condition that typically causes some level of learning disability and characteristic physical features.
Around 775 babies are born with the condition each year in England and Wales.
Many babies born with Down's syndrome are diagnosed with the condition after birth and are likely to have:
reduced muscle tone leading to floppiness (hypotonia)
eyes that slant upwards and outwards
a small mouth with a protruding tongue
a flat back of the head
a below average weight and length at birth
Although children with Down's syndrome share some common physical characteristics, they do not all look the same. A child with Down's syndrome will look more like their mother, father or other family members than other children with the syndrome.
People with Down's syndrome also vary in personality and ability. Everyone born with Down's syndrome will have a degree of learning disability, but the level of disability will be different for each individual.
Read more about the characteristics of Down's syndrome.
Screening for Down's syndrome
In some cases, babies with the condition are identified before birth as a result of screening for Down's syndrome.
Screening tests can't tell you for definite if your baby has Down's syndrome, but they can tell you how likely it is. If screening suggests there is a chance your baby does have Down's syndrome, further tests can be carried out during pregnancy to confirm it.
If testing indicates your child will be born with Down's syndrome, you should be offered genetic counselling to allow you and your partner to discuss the impact of the diagnosis.
You may also be offered an appointment to meet a doctor or other health professional who works with children with Down’s syndrome, who can also tell you more about the condition and answer any questions you may have.
Read more about diagnosing Down's syndrome.
What causes Down's syndrome?
Down's syndrome is caused by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21 in a baby's cells.
In the vast majority of cases, this isn't inherited, and is simply the result of a one-off genetic mistake in the sperm or egg.
There is a small chance of having a child with Down's syndrome with every pregnancy, but the risk increases with the age of the mother. For example, a woman who is 20 has about a one in 1,500 chance of having a baby with the condition, while a woman who is 40 has a one in 100 chance.
There is no evidence that anything done before or during pregnancy increases or decreases the risk of having a child with Down's syndrome.
Read more about the causes of Down's syndrome.
Life with Down's syndrome
Although there is no "cure" for Down's syndrome, there are ways to help children with the condition develop into healthy and fulfilled individuals who are able to achieve a level of independence right for them. This includes:
access to good healthcare, including a range of different specialists
early intervention programmes to provide support for children and parents
good parenting skills and an ordinary family life
education and support groups to provide information and help for parents, friends and families
Improved education and support has led to more opportunities for people with Down's syndrome. These include being able to leave home, form new relationships, gain employment and lead largely independent lives.
However, it is important to remember that each child is different and it is not possible to predict how individuals will develop.
Read more about living with Down's syndrome.
Associated health conditions
There are a number of disorders that are more common in people with the condition. These include:
hearing and vision problems
heart disorders, such as congenital heart disease
thyroid problems, such as an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism)
recurrent infections, such as pneumonia
Your child may be checked by a paediatrician more often than other children to pick up developing problems as early as possible. If you have any concerns about your child's health, discuss them with your GP, health visitor or paediatrician.
Read more about the complications of Down's syndrome.

POWERLIFTING
Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting,
it involves lifting weights in three attempts. Powerlifting evolved
from a sport known as "odd lifts", which followed the same three-attempt
format but used a wider variety of events, akin to strongman competition. Eventually odd lifts became standardized to the current three.
In competition, lifts may be performed equipped or un-equipped (typically referred to as 'raw' lifting or 'classic' in the IPF specifically). Equipment in this context refers to a supportive bench shirt or squat/deadlift suit or briefs. In some federations, knee wraps are permitted in the equipped but not un-equipped division; in others, they may be used in both equipped and un-equipped lifting. Weight belts, knee sleeves, wrist wraps and special footwear may also be used, but are not considered when distinguishing equipped from un-equipped lifting.[1]
Competitions take place across the world but mostly in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Iceland, Egypt, Sweden, Finland, Russia and Ukraine. Powerlifting has been a Paralympic sport (bench press only) since 1984 and, under the IPF, is also a World Games sport. Local, national and international competitions have also been sanctioned by other federations operating independently of the IPF.Power lifters complete 3 lifts in order -SQUAT,BENCH PRESS,DEAD LIFT. You have 3 attempts at each lift, the goal is to lift as much weight as possible with the score of your highest lift in each exercise combined.Rules- SQUAT- your hip joint must be lowered below the top of your knees as you squat into bottom position.BENCH PRESS-your back, head ,bottom and shoulders must be on the bench at all times, with your feet on the ground and you must wait for the judges call of =press= before lifting bar off your chest .DEAD LIFT-you must complete the lift in one smooth movement without any jerking and wait for judges signal before put bar down.My power lifting moment was in 1987 at physical city gym,southend-on sea,Essex i had to join the BRITISH WEIGHTLIFTING GUILD and be weighed my remembered scores were -SQUAT-200LB-BENCH PRESS -75 LB-DEADLIFT -330LBS.
