Ben Stokes Retired from International Cricket

 Ben Stokes, one of England's most iconic cricketers, has announced his retirement from international cricket. As of today, June 28, 2026, he is playing in the third Test match against New Zealand at Trent Bridge, which he has confirmed will be his final assignment for England.

### Career Highlights and Legacy

Stokes’ international career spanned 15 years, beginning with his white-ball debut in 2011 and followed by his Test debut in December 2013 during the Ashes series in Australia. Throughout his career, he became known as a talismanic figure and a "big occasion" player.

 * **Key Achievements:**

   * **2019 World Cup Final:** He played a pivotal role in England's first-ever 50-over World Cup title, famously scoring an unbeaten 84 to tie the final against New Zealand before helping the team win the Super Over.

   * **2019 Ashes at Headingley:** He delivered one of the most celebrated innings in cricket history, scoring a match-winning 135 not out to lead England to an improbable victory.

   * **2022 T20 World Cup:** He was again a match-winner in the final, scoring 52 not out against Pakistan to secure the title for England.

   * **Highest Score:** His highest Test score remains the 258 he achieved in Cape Town in 2016.

 * **Leadership:** Stokes took over as England's Test captain in April 2022. Alongside head coach Brendon McCullum, he was instrumental in introducing the aggressive, fearless playing style that became known as "Bazball," which helped revitalize England's Test team.

### Retirement

Stokes announced his decision to his teammates shortly before the fourth day of the Trent Bridge Test. Reflecting on his career, the ECB leadership praised him for his resilience, extraordinary skill, and the profound impact he had on the team and the sport. He leaves the international game with 121 Tests, 114 ODIs, and 43 T20Is for England under his belt.
