Believe it or not, 1970 was 50 years ago. Why isn’t anyone talking about that?

Oh right, global pandemic, civil unrest, fires, hurricanes .....

Would you like to talk about something else for a change?

Why not look back at the similarities and difference of being a kid 50 years
ago when life was a mash-up of old-fashion fun to space-age possibilities with what  today’s kids
are navigating..

I wrote Confessions of a Helmet-Free Childhood,True-ish Tales of an Analog Upbringing
-a collection of 13 humorous essays that serve a a wayback machine that captures former childhood
mishaps and the lessons learned. While the stories are personal, the appeal is universal.

The conversation can go any number of ways.
I would argue, our truer self was revealed on the playground.
How to hang on to the good stuff gof being a kid? (curiosity, living in the moment, being
our authentic selves) What were the “gifts” of childhood that prepared
us for adult life? What were the things we left -that we should get back.
And let’s have some laughs about childhood “over tea."

BOOK BLURB
Finfer tells wry, often riveting stories of facing a school bus bully, inadvertently destroying her sister's banana-seat bike, and becoming entangled in scrapes not always of her making." -- Publishers Weekly Booklife.

"Finfer delivers 13 vignettes that eloquently capture the essence of childhood." - Kirkus Reviews.

Whether she’s taking a face plant in a second-grade war, lying her way into pet ownership, setting the fondue kit on fire or taking the Fifth after an epic food fight, Confessions of a Helmet-Free Childhood chronicles Cinnia Curran Finfer finding her way through childhood by trial and error—heavy on the error. She wasn’t trying to be funny; it just keeps turning out that way.

Born the second of four girls in New York City, Cinnia’s childhood played out in five different grade schools and three different high schools in New York, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Illinois. Being small for her age, far from athletic, and a perpetual new kid with an unusual name made for quite a ride. Like any kid, she made bad calls, big mistakes, and sometimes simply found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Hey, a lot happens between “Go out and play” and “Be home before dark.”

    Book Review
  • I like this book as I read the first chapter it reminded me of my time growing up in the 70s-i was in 1962 and remember most of my childhood ,yes the 60-79s had problems but this book excellently written by the author draws you in to a time when kids did something more than just be online,is online was not quite that great back then.inspiring, reflecting ,a jolly great read
