Vira Burmenko is an award winning performing artist from the Ukraine, Kiev - a gypsy punk violinist, and a passionate instructor, and a podcast host for Musician Today (www.viraburmenko.com/podcast).
Vira has interviewed some of the legendary artists: Mark Wood, Sarah Charness, Taylor Davis, Hillary Klug, Dr Draw, Toronto’s Viral Sensation Brigit O’Regan, harpist Chantal Dube, and many more. The recent features include: The Being Frank Show, where Vira premiered her original song, Horsemen from the Iron Fiddle Saga. Due to the quarantine situation around the world, Vira and ten other international artists are working on a big online projects, to inspire and uplift peoples’ spirits during this difficult time for us all.
In the ocean of modern violin Vira stands out with her pristine instrumental technique and the theatrical twist of dance in live performance.
Her 2015 Akademia Award winning hit singles Three-Mix and The NeverEnding Tango received acclimation as Best Instrumental Classical/Electronica and Best Latin and are spun on over 70 FM Radio stations. Vira's press release with Marquix Global Networks surpassed its 1 million views in February 2016 and her feature Three-Mix video screened in the Toronto Short Film Festival, alongside Moshe Hammer's "Music Child". Vira has been recently nominated as the Emerging Artist of the Year in the upcoming InFame Awards 2017. Among other nominees are Eugene (Doctor) Draw and pianist Elizabeth Spano as Established Artists of the Year.
In the past few years Vira featured in the live events around Toronto, among them The Waterfront Magazine Media Event at The Toula Lounge performing with Leah Hawkins, The TIFF Green Room by Madflower Canada's Nico Bacigalupo The Persian Beauty Awards broadcast on national television. Vira also acted in tv shows and films as a violinist, among them Netflix' Hemlock Grove.
During her online live shows the artist shares not only her music but also articles from her life-changing book, My Key to Immortality: Tuning your Mind into the Life of Universal Love, available through Balboa Press, a division of HayHouse Publishing. Vira also speaks out on topics of music, mind, spirit, body and success in self-realization.
In the past Vira has produced a series of silent short comedy films - in style of Charlie Chaplin - which she directed and scored. "La vie d'un clown" screened in fifteen festivals, has received four international awards, and three nominations. Vira holds an MA in Music Composition and BFA in Music performance from York University. During the past twelve years Vira has taught over a hundred students; coached them for RCM exams levels 1 – 7, coached string ensemble and organized recitals for students; and created online learning tools and courses.
