How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords, has rescued my works after a long-gone agent, left them on a slush pile and forgot to mention it. With the low production overheads, it is possible to offer the books at a price that is reasonable for everyone. I know that before I pop for 14.99 or more for a book it better be from a verified tried and true author where I can read some of it at the brick and mortar store. Now, for less than a cold soda or cup of coffee, and where I can see some of the work for free first, I am a lot more willing to take a risk on an unknown writer. Considering that some of the NAMED authors I like, put out a lot of Schlock that I paid real real money for with editing errors. Yes, I have submitted to other places and for this or that editing fee, or set up fee they can get it to market, IF, I do everything else. If I am going to do everything and find my own editors and such, to have the a book go out at a price that makes it so the only people who will read it is the friends I give a free copy too..... It is an old soap box that I have been keeping some good fun from getting out to entertain the audience. Why a little clean or naughty fun needs to be prohibitively expense is beyond me. I hope you enjoy the works, and forgive me the need for a coffee fund. IF you find an error let me know so I can repair it. One would hope that after the number of people who have gone through this that they should be few to non-existent, unlike the last professionally created book I read. Enjoy.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Watching how the story takes on its own life and goes places that I did not plan, but is a lot more fun than what I had originally planned. Also, if some character needs to get some divine justice as it were, it isn't illegal to let them get what they have coming to them. Reality is so boringly limited and dull.
What do your fans mean to you?
Someone besides my friends have gotten a bit of amusement and respite from our mundane world which is usually all too depressing. I am glad when I can make someone’s day a bit better, or caused someone to think about what can be done to make things just a bit better. I hope the fans, get some enjoyment so they come back. I find that I appreciate the work of many artist, and hope I have provided a moment of happiness or less misery than before.
What are you working on next?
Clearing up the backlog of other stories that need to see the light of day and not be confined to data storage unappreciated. It would be nice to think I could work on a fantasy of what would I do, if this paid enough to leave the day job. I did say fantasy, as most professional writers do not make the poverty wage if they relied only on book sales.
Who are your favorite authors?
As a kid I read a lot of Robert A. Heinlein, and Anne McCaffrey. J.K Rowling with her Harry Potters is a must read if you are teacher. The Clarke, Stackpole, Asprin, Foster, the list could go one for pages for on Sci Fi and Fantasy requires Tolkien, Ricebourghs, Moorecock, Edgar Rice Burroughs. The works of the Starwars, Star Trek, Dr. Who, which have a host of authors should not be forgotten. 
I could go on about horror and such, but Shelley, Rice, and King would be good starting places. Mysteries, Thrillers and such…. You might say I am eclectic and sometimes I just get something at the library on spec.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My kids and if I wait too long my bladder, there is breakfast, brunch, and on weekends, I sometimes get to work on a story to amuse.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Usually working myself half to death. Day job is a teacher and there is always homework, lesson plans, professional development, bills, chasing my own kids, and seeing if my spouse is still talking to me. If I had a life a bit of camping, catching up on reading of growing list of books I should read, and binge-watching something sounds good too.

When I taught overseas I enjoyed the travel that went with it. Now that I have children, I am hopeful that I will be able to take them traveling.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Often looking to re-read something when traveling and ebooks travel better than paper. 
Though in the last 5 years or so, a lot more word of mouth from friends or seeing a movie or TV show based on a book. then I go and read the book.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Something for my mother when I was young, which was did not get me the 5 star review I had hoped for, so…. It took a while to get back.
What is your writing process?
It depends on what inspired the story. If it was a debate on what would it take for a person to do all the things that character X in a show or book did. Then I would start with trying to find a science justification for the character to be able to do something and see where that takes me. If it is a moral point, or environmental argument I want to make then start with that, and see what might make it real for the audience. If I get stuck there is always dice.
How do you approach cover design?
Abject panic. Still working on getting it right. As my work is cross genre it has added a bit of a challenge
