The girl

The girl grew up healthy and happy, making frequent visits to her grandmother, who seemed to have no further problems. Years later, as the girl prepared to leave for college, her grandmother made her a gift. It was a sewing box, crafted from wood, with intricate designs on the sides. When the girl opened the box, she discovered a skeleton key lying atop a thick piece of paper. On the paper was a note from her grandmother, written in a shaky scrawl.

'My dear granddaughter, from time to time you will hear stories of horror that take place within the walls of this apartment. I want you to know that these stories are true, and to use this key to protect yourself from whatever dark force lurks in the shadows of this place. I'm sorry not to have been able to reveal it to you sooner, but I promise you that you will be safe now.'

The girl went to college and forgot all about the strange note, but when she returned home, she found that it had haunted her dreams. She kept the key to herself, not sure what it meant, but something inside her warned her not to forget it.

The girl continued to visit her grandmother, who grew ever more distant and elderly. One evening, she asked the girl to go to the bathroom and turn on the lights before she went to bed. Strangely, a chill ran through the girl that made her hesitate before she agreed.

When the girl got to the bathroom, she noticed a faint glimmer in the corner of the wall. She stepped closer and realized it was coming from an old lock, with the keyhole shaped like a small bony hand. She immediately recognized the key her grandmother had given her, and knew that this was the dark force her grandmother had told her about.

Shaking with fear, the girl opened the door and stepped inside, discovering a long and narrow hallway. Lights flickered, and the walls seemed to be made of bones. Feeling her way along, she soon found the exit at the end of the hallway. From there, the girl was safe.

The next morning, when the girl told her grandmother about the strange hallway, the old woman smiled and said that she had been waiting for this moment. She then revealed that she was the dark force, created eons ago by a powerful witch, cursed to remain in the walls of her own home. The witch had placed her bony hand into the lock to keep her from escaping.

The little girl had unknowingly broken the curse and set her grandmother free. The old woman lived out her last few years in peace, surrounded by family, before passing away.

The girl never forgot the lesson her grandmother taught her, and found courage in the darkness that surrounded her. After all, it was only in the deepest shadows that the light of a new dawn could be found.

The babysitter

The babysitter realized in horror that the man had been in the same house as her the whole time! She raced upstairs and soon discovered the source of the calls: the master bedroom. She cautiously opened the door and there, in the eerie light of the moon, she saw the man holding a knife in one hand and the phone in his other. He lunged at her and with a quivering voice, he whispered “I’ve taken care of the kids...now I’m coming for you.”

The babysitter shrieked and quickly slammed the door shut. She called the police and waited in fear for their arrival. When the police arrived, they searched the house and found the man hidden in a closet in the master bedroom. As it turns out, the man was the children's father, and he had been living in the mansion for months without anyone knowing. Apparently, he had been trying to scare the babysitter so she would leave and he could have his family back.

The man was arrested and taken away, but the babysitter was left shaken by the experience. She continued to take babysitting jobs in the area, hoping to shake off the memories of that terrifying night. Little did she know, however, that those same experiences would eventually lead her to a career as a horror novelist.

Years later, she wrote a book based on her own experience. It became an instant classic, a grim tale of horror and dark comedy in the style of Tales from the Crypt. It was her tales of supernatural events and eerie happenings that kept readers captivated, reminding them that true terror can sometimes be just around the corner.

Rumour

The rumor of the old man who had been buried alive seized the girls in a terror unlike anything they had ever felt before. All night, they talked about the supposedly undead man, trapped underground with grave dirt heavy upon his shoulders. When the conversation turned to the buried man’s struggles against his undead curse, one of the girls—brave and bold—offered to prove it by going to the graveyard while the others remained safe and sound.

The other reached an unsteady agreement, and one of the girls left for the cemetery. Tiredness eventually pushed the group to sleep, dreams of the old man’s still beating heart falling on their ears even as they drifted off.

But morning came, and the brave girl had still not returned. It seemed like something horrid had happened, so the other girls reluctantly gathered their courage and went to the graveyard. To their horror, they discovered their friend lying upon the fresh-turned grave. It was clear that she had died of fright.

And then, amongst the dead silence, they heard a faint scratching sound coming from the grave. Their eyes widened as the realization settled in –the old man was still alive.

In a macabre scene, they tipped the coffin onto its side and yanked out the buried man. He staggered as he emerged, his face twisted in fear and confusion. The poor soul had lost his mind after being buried conscious, yet miraculously he was safe.

Warning bells rang in the minds of the girl’s parents—a warning to never again take risks or dare fate in the dead of night. The girls vowed to never forget the tragedy of their friend, and not to take the safety of home for granted.

But the old man who had been buried alive would never forget that fateful night. The night he had been denied his eternal rest, his sanity, and his life.

Sara

Sara got out of bed in a state of shock. She had let her guard down and had not paid attention to her environment; the murderer had taken advantage of her daughterly act of love to enter her room without being heard or noticed. She ran to the living room and called the police. They arrived just in time to stop the murderer from getting away.

Sara, from a small town in [....], had always been a timid soul, easily scared by the dark. That's why her parents decided to get her a dog, an old one in need of company and protection.

Sara loved her dog and felt much more protected with him close. Every night before sleeping, she would reach out her hand and her loyal companion would start licking it until she dozed off.

Years went by in this way and the dog, although old, was still constantly by Sara's side. One night as she listened to the radio, a report came on warning of a dangerous murderer said to have been sighted in the nearby area.

But Sara found strength in the company of her dog and went to bed without fear. Like every night, she stretched out her hand, and what usually was the comforting feel of her dog's tongue, this time was a strange wet, cold feeling.

Frightened, Sara could not comprehend what was happening until, with a shriek, she lifted the bedsheets and looked under the bed. There, her beloved dog lay lifeless, while a strange man's tongue licked her hand.

Overcome with panic, she grabbed her cell phone and called the police. Just in time they came and apprehended the murderer, who had taken advantage of her innocent act of love and trust.

From that day on, Sara never again felt entirely safe in the dark, but she was comforted by the thought that her dog was still watching over her.
