Now let’s welcome Anne Michaud (ME-show), a veteran political journalist who is a reporter for The Wall
Street Journal. She previously wrote a nationally syndicated opinion column for Newsday and was twice
named “Columnist of the Year.” She’s won more than 25 writing and reporting awards.
Her book, Why They Stay, reveals the inner lives of eight political wives as they fight to maintain a grip on
power and pursue their own personal ambition. It includes Melania Trump, Hillary Clinton, Jackie
Kennedy, Eleanor Roosevelt and more.
Anne worked in the arena of disgraced political figures — the men — and wanted to tell the story of their
wives. She goes beyond the stereotypes and lays bare the tightrope the wives were forced to walk — in
full public view — to keep their families’ history-making potential alive.
Anne found fascinating parallels with the strategies medieval queens of England used to wield power.
