STONER SHEEP get the MUNCHIES after feasting on £4k worth of cannabis plants

A flock of sheep that are about to meet their maker at the abattoir got high on cannabis plants worth £4,000, after the drugs were ditched in a Surrey field.
"My sheep weren't quite on their backs with legs in the air but they probably had the munchies," farm shop manager Nellie Budd told local rag the Surrey Mirror.
"They haven't had any other side effects but I'll tell you about the meat next week."
The stash of marijuana plants, which were each roughly three foot tall, were dumped at the edge of Fanny's Farm in Markedge Lane, the paper reported. Budd's shop was just 200 yards from where the drugs were fly-tipped, apparently.
Police told Budd that the cannabis had a street value of about £4,000.
She added:
"My sheep being inquisitive had an interesting feast on it," she said. "At first I thought it was someone's hedgerow rubbish. I went down to get the bags so the sheep weren't eating black plastic.
"When I got there I realised it was a form of herbal cannabis plant. They were very strong in scent."
Budd said she was puzzled by how the plants came to be in the field, and speculated that someone could have taken a detour off the motorway to offload the drugs.
The stoned sheep, meanwhile, are understood to be wandering around r-e-a-l-l-y-s-l-o-w-l-y and feeling a tad bit paranoid while searching for a massive chocolate bar and a family-sized bag of crisps, man

Cask from the past: archaeologists discover 5,000-year-old beer recipe

Chinese villagers could have been raising a pint 5,000 years ago, according to new research.
Archaeologists studying vessels unearthed in the Shaanxi province of China say they’ve uncovered beer-making equipment dating from between 3400 and 2900 BC - an era known as the late Yangshao period - and figured out the recipe to boot.
“China has an early tradition of fermentation and evidence of rice-based fermented beverage has been found from the 9000-year-old Jiahu site. However, to our knowledge, [the new discovery] is the first direct evidence of in situ beer making in China,” said Jiajing Wang of Stanford University, first author of the new research.
The team examined residues in the vessels to reveal that the brew was made from a wide range of plants, including broomcorn millet (Panicum miliaceum), Job’s tears (Coix lacryma-jobi) and barley.
The discovery marks the earliest known evidence of barley being used in China, suggesting that the crop arrived in the country around 1,000 years earlier than previously thought. =read more

Bones of Thomas Becket to return to Canterbury – via Hungary

The murder of Thomas Becket, Archbishop of CanterburyA fragment of bone believed to come from the body of Thomas Becket is to return to England from Hungary for the first time in more than 800 years in a vivid symbol of reconciliation between Anglicans and Roman Catholics.
The relic, held in the Basilica of Esztergom, the country’s most important Catholic church, is to form the centrepiece of an elaborate week-long “pilgrimage” to London and Canterbury involving the Hungarian President János Áder, and top-level clerics from the two churches.
It will be reunited temporarily with a handful of other relics revered for their associations with the murdered archbishop as it travels from his birthplace on Cheapside in the City of London to the site of his murder in Canterbury Cathedral.-read more

Astigmatism

Introduction

Astigmatism is a common and usually minor eye condition that causes blurred or distorted vision.
It occurs when the cornea or lens isn't a perfectly curved shape. Many people who wear glasses have some degree of astigmatism.
Astigmatism belongs to a group of related eye conditions known as refractive errors. Other common refractive errors include:
If you have astigmatism, it's likely you'll also have one of these conditions.
Left untreated, astigmatism can cause headaches, eye strain and fatigue (tiredness), particularly after doing tasks that involve focusing on something for long periods, such as reading or using a computer.

What causes astigmatism?

Astigmatism is usually the result of an irregular-shaped cornea or lens. The cornea is the transparent layer of tissue at the front of the eye.
The cornea should be regularly curved like the surface of a football, but in cases of astigmatism it has an irregular curve, more like the shape of a rugby ball. This means that light rays entering the eye aren't focused properly, creating a blurred image.read more

Magic Mushrooms Could Help Fight Depression

Getting high on a psychedelic drug extracted from "magic mushrooms" could help those who struggle with incurable depression, new research suggests.
Half of patients in a small pilot study of 12 people had reduced symptoms three months after taking psilocybin capsules.
While the study authors warn that it is too early to make strong conclusions about the use of the drug, it did show that more research was needed.
Lead author Dr Robin Carhart-Harris from Imperial College London said: "This is the first time that psilocybin has been investigated as a potential treatment for major depression.
"Treatment-resistant depression is common, disabling and extremely difficult to treat.
"New treatments are urgently needed, and our study shows that psilocybin is a promising area of future research.
"The results are encouraging and we now need larger trials to understand whether the effects we saw in this study translate into read more

Documentary reveals secret life of human pups

A NEW documentary takes a look at the hidden world of human pups: a secretive subculture of men who dress and behave like dogs. Why do they covet doggie treats, belly rubs and squeaky toys?
“Puppy play is definitely not about sex, it is a form of escapism,” says Kye, a 28-year-old Oxford graduate who enjoys dressing up as a dog, reports the Daily Mail.Channel 4’s Secret Life of the Human Pups focuses mainly on men like Kye but he says: “Females who are into pet play are usually into kitten play as they identify more with kittens than pups.”
The program also features the sad story of Tom, 32, a theatre technician from Tring, Hertforshire, who split up with his fiancee Rachel because of his yearning to dress up as a dalmatian.
He says: “You disappear and start chasing puppy toys. You go so deep into the head space, you crave it and want it. It’s just magic.”-read more

Mary Beard's Ultimate Rome: Empire Without Limit-bbc iplayer

In this first episode, Mary Beard reaches back to the myths and legends of the origins of Rome to gain an insight into the deep-rooted psyche of the people of Rome - a city born through fratricide and rape. But from the very beginning, Rome was also an asylum for outcasts and exiles and because of this, it adopted a uniquely inclusive approach towards its neighbours and defeated enemies. The expansion of the city brought territory in first in Italy and Sicily, where Rome first came head to head and eventually defeated her great rival, Carthage.
Mary then travels to Greece, where Rome adopted a complex mix of brute force and cultural cringe, and France, where she finds evidence of war methods akin to outright genocide. In typical myth-busting style, Mary argues that the period of greatest Roman expansion occurred when Rome itself was little more than a provincial backwater, a shantytown of mud and brick. The marble, monumental Rome we know came about because of imperial conquest - not the other way round. And likewise, the creation and possession of an empire transformed the politics of Rome forever, creating the conditions for one-man rule, and ending the centuries-old Roman Republic.link

New sun

Mark,
thank you for your interest and willingness to ask about New Sun
What inspired your band and music?
When Doug Erickson and I founded what was to become New Sun in 1991, we both came from the school of odd metered Prog music. Such as King Crimson, Yes, and Rush. Doug was also into the improvisational aspect of people like Michael Brook and Robert Fripp. Chris came from a more accessible aspect with influences such as Blue Oyster Cult and Jethro Tull.
We founded our song writing upon the notion that is should challenge the players and the listeners and make them think a bit.
Chris 'Tru' Trujillo and Alex Kley brought in other elements based around odd metered rhythmical grooves and that changed our focus a bit. To groove and not play in 4/4 meter became a big part of our process.
We all believed in the notion of telling stories both musically and lyrically that were both complex and yet accessible by any listener. And we are not tied to anyone style to achieve that goal.
What are your aims?
To put out what we write, play live when we can and just create. It is something I personally cannot stop or live without. Whether it inspires or reaches listeners is not something we can control. We write music to challenge ourselves as writers and players first. And deliver a story as best we can with lyrics and music all as one touching an emotional nerve. Something we would enjoy listening to.
What plans do you have for the future?
Our 5th album “Transitory” will be released this summer and we plan on getting out and doing some shows on the West Coast of US. If it grows and connects, we’ll look to tour Europe in 2017.
CSC has been writing music for TV/Film for 15 years and would like to expand that as well.
You can find the first singles from that album Slipstream Day and Down By Sea averrable on our website www.new-sun.com
Cheers,
Christopher Scott Cooper
