Now that the sun’s out and summer vacation’s in, it’s the perfect time to pack up the car and get away from the city for a day of sightseeing. Here are some unusual sites to check out.
A trip around the globe
Start in Salem, N.H., home of America’s Stonehenge (105 Haverhill Road, 603-893-8300, www.stonehengeusa.com).It’s not quite as famous as its British counterpart, but this ancient site is riddled with mysteries too. A collection of man-made chambers probably constructed by indigenous peoples — or, as some contend, the work of pre-Columbian Europeans? You’ll have to decide for yourself. Call for more protection for seagrass meadows
Seagrasses - the underwater plants that act as nursery grounds for young fish - need more protection, say scientists.
Monitoring of seagrass meadows off the North Wales coast found areas damaged by the likes of boat moorings, anchors and vehicles crossing at low tide had reduced value to the ecosystem.
Fewer species of fish were found where seagrass was degraded, according to research published in PeerJ journal.
The seagrass studied was near the village of Porthdinllaen, in Gwynned.
Researchers at Swansea University studied areas with both high and low cover over a 28-hectare stretch of sea bed.
They also sampled fish living in the underwater meadows of flowering plants.
There was a three-fold reduction in the diversity of fish species and invertebrates, such as prawns, shrimp, juvenile cod and juvenile plaice, in areas of low cover, said lead researcher Dr Richard Unsworth.
He said that in the areas that had become damaged, there was "a reduction in diversity of the species and in the value of the habitat for juvenile fish".

Scientists in South Asia struggle to understand heatwave
Scientists in India and Pakistan say higher temperatures were just one factor behind the recent heatwaves and other causes have yet to be established.
They say low air pressure, high humidity and an unusually absent wind played key roles in making the heat unbearable but they do not know why such conditions prevailed at this time of the year.
The temperature forecast for the heatwave peak in Karachi last week was 43C, according to meteorologists in Pakistan.
The prediction was accurate but other factors made the heat feel unbearable, they say.
More than 1,000 people have died in Pakistan in the worst heatwave in three decades.

Drastic action to save endangered tortoise
In a desperate bid to save one of the world's most endangered animals, conservationists are taking the controversial step of defacing the last survivors.
Ploughshare tortoises are highly prized for their distinctive gold and black shells and fetch exceptionally high prices on the international black market.
Efforts to steal the animals from their native Madagascar are so relentless that there may only be less than 500 left.
So the tortoises are now having their shells permanently engraved with a large serial number together with the initials "MG" for Madagascar.
The hope is that deliberately making the animals less attractive will reduce or even eliminate demand for them.

Hi Mark...Sorry it's only coming in so late. I do apologise for my dragging of feet! My computer crashed so had to write this on my smart phone. Feel free to edit if there are any errors. I also did thi while on copious amounts of medication for bronchial infection.
Q: What inspired me to become a Professional Speaker/Ancient Alien Theorist?
A: As far back as I can remember I have been fascinated by the fairytales, myths and historical stories of the ancient people's and places of the past. I have these incredibly vivid memories of sitting at Minorah Nursery School listening to my teacher - way back when, and being completely immersed in those ancient tales of god's, monsters and men. Those ancient stories struck a cord in me - something deep inside resonated...And that's when it all began, my love and passion for storytelling and Human History. Nursery school was a great place and a fantastic way to seed a young, fertile mind with thoughts and ideas of other world's, and the mysterious origin of mankind....
In 1986 I got to see Halleys Comet - I remember looking up at that clear African night sky and thinking: "How amazing the universe was...how Big, and Strange, and Odd it was...Looking at that Wandering, Celestial traveller streak across the sky, its long silvery tail streched out behind it, all ablaze as it hurtled through the cosmos on its journey around the Sun - and realising for the very first time -(like a virgin), that with all that vastness of space, the countless stars and galaxies - it was impossible for us the human race to be alone...That there was so much more out there - more than what the eye, and the mind could conceive - endless possibilities! In the vast ocean of space and time...
That was the beginning - I guess you could say that it was many things over a long period of time, that led me to being a Professional Speaker and Ancient Alien theorist-( which is my hobby). Books I have read, people I have spoken to, events and experiences I have had - they all add up to making you...who you are. It's the sum total of everything you've experienced over the course of your life - including your inherited genetical makeup, that truly makes you a unique individual. But if I had to find the place it all started, it would be those formative years of Nursery school, and seeing Hamlets comet in 1986, that really had an impact - where, and when this long and exciting journey began!
Q: What are your aims?
A: In today's World of eight billion or so people...its hard to know in which direction to turn -The fast paced hustle and bustle of life - from the high flyers to the low life's - from the beauty queens to the hasbeens...It can get really confusing as to what your aims in this life should be. Humanity is teetering on the brink of disaster - one step forward and we all go over the edge - a spiralling fall into the abyss of biological obscurity!
I aim for a brighter and better future for mankind - a future of prosperity and enlightenment for all - a unified approach to the World's problems...We are all in this mess together, and every single one of us is responsible for the way things are!
So I guess my aim in this life would have to be helping my fellow man understand that a new way of thinking is needed...If we are to have any hope as the human race, at making our way from the edge of almost certain annihilation. What we face collectively as a people, is something that is unprecedented in the entire history of our existence.
It's a Revolution calling...its time to make a change. A new kind of vision is due. It's We the people - What once was, can be no longer be...It's now or never for the human race!
Q: What plans do you have for the future?
A: I have many plans for the future - They say: Life happens while your making them though! I'm busy writing my first book, so hopefully you'll be able to read it, in the not too distant future. I take each day as it comes. I'm trying to simply enjoy the Ride, and make sense of all this madness that envelopes this World...there's no point in getting your panties in a twist, over the Game that's being played - just play the game, and always remember that it's just a Game! Nothing more, nothing less...
I still look up to the stars, and see the endless possibilities out there in Matrix of existence...It gives me hope and still fills me with that childlike wonder - Dreams of life, dreams of hope, and the dream of the endless source( like the warm embrace of the womb) - the future stretches out in front of me, and I embrace the present, so that I can embrace the Source, and the future!
There are no plans - Only hopes and dreams....
