THE DEAD BODY by Mark Antony Raines
It was just your average weekend Saturday waiting for my friends to turn up at our usual hang out:a patch of man made Hill across from the top of the main square in my seaside resort of Southend on Sea home once to the world's longest pier until someone in New Zealand built a longer one.
As usual I went inside Mac Donald s for a cheeseburger and chips to eat -as their say on television other food outlets are available .
Finally my friends arrived on the scene ready to rock and roll and strut down the high street as if it was owned by us but this is part of youthful ideas and long forgotten with the ravages of father time.
The rest of the high street just carried on the business of shopping or window shopping and thinking to themselves what a bunch of idiots we looked at.
We reached the promenade and walked down the endless arcades and we visited the odd one to play on the games and the occasional game of chicken with penny machine; which meant running up to said penny machine and bumping it and grabbing as many pennies as possible before the buzzer went off and the arcade assistant run of his kiosk telling us to go way using obscene language.
We got bored of this decision between us whose turn it was to go to Woolworths to steal some sweets as it was easy as long as we brought a quarter and put one in the bag and two in your pocket.
So we go off to do our most favourite thing, some beach combing in search like some watered down pirates seeking our treasure.
As we walk along the stretch of seemingly endless sand to see what Frist I think is a seal so we all decide to get nearer to investigate.
It was not a seal but the body of a young boy who seemed to not be moving or breathing. In fact we all feared the worse we had found a dead body.
I stepped closer to make certain as I did not wish to rise and alarm as it could end us all in trouble.
I got closer I put my ear to his nose,no breathing; I placed my two fingers on his arm to feel a pulse there was none ;I was just to pronounce the young boy was dead when the boy let out an unearthly gruntle sound that shocked me and rooted me to the spot in fear unable to move.
The boy raised his body upright into a sitting position and looked at me with his deadless eyes then opened his mouth to reveal a series of razor sharp teeth and a crimson blood red tongue.
I let out an almighty scream telling my friends to run.
Their in turn let out riotous laughing :and then the boy stood up and said
"April's fool"

Wish You Were Here: A Rock Fantasy by Joyce Isaacson inspired by Badfinger

Joyce Isaacson has been happily married for 30 years; she has one son and her baby, Taylor, a cat. She loves to make new recipes, write in her blog (over 1000 members are eagerly awaiting the publication of Wish You Were Here) and she enjoys talking to other writers. Working for the Chicago Tribune Editorial Department for ten years, she gained invaluable skills, primarily in Art and Journalism. In grade school, she won a poetry contest. The writing bug bit her and she has never stopped doing what she loves. In high school, Joyce formatted her school newspaper and interviewed local rock stars. Her love of fantasy and the paranormal, coupled with her fascination with Rock and Roll, compelled her to write Wish You Were Here: A Rock Fantasy, a book inspired by the group Badfinger. How was she inspired to write the book?
In 2013, her husband had a little internet radio station and asked her to find some CDs for him. She came across The Best of Badfinger, and she listened to Rock of All Ages. It sounded like a Beatles’ song and she loved it. She read the liner notes and found out a little about the band. Her husband was familiar with a Badfinger group on Facebook so she joined it. She found out everybody was hurting.
Badfinger’s manager had stolen their money, consequently, two members killed themselves, one in 1975 and the other in 1983. She wrote to the group that Tommy was looking down at them from Heaven and that they would always be in his heart. She received positive feedback. She decided to write a blurb about Tommy and Pete on that site. She got a lot of positive feedback. From that, she created her own Badfinger page and began writing segments of a story about Tommy and Pete in Heaven. That has since morphed into Wish You Were Here, Badfinger “A Rock Fantasy”.
Now she loves their music so much and she has close to 1001 members on her FB blog. Many of her members encouraged her to publish the story. She sat on the idea for about a year and finally decided to create a readable story for them to hold in their hands. She knew she needed a lot of help so she hired a fantastic editor, Dennis De Rose. She is dedicated to keeping their memories alive.
The updated photo will be coming in the next email.
All the best, Joyce Isaacson.
Do you like Rock and Roll? Do you enjoy a good story? Wish You Were Here: A Rock Fantasy, a story inspired by Badfinger will not only enthrall you but entertain you.
