Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality.
But...there is, unseen by most, an underworld, a place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit...a dark side.
Preston likes looking at the large gargoyle made from stone as it keeps him company whilst he is beavering away in his studio creating his latest piece of art:he does like being a struggling artist as other dies not pay the rent or feed him as he often lives on just bread and soup.
Later that day Preston meets up with the art gallery owner to see how his works of art are being received by the public but is informed by the owner his art is unpopular and not selling.
This depressed Preston whom cordially reacted in his usual manner by getting inebriated so he staggers on his way home as the bar was in throws him out afterhe ran out of money.
During his way home Preston gets the call of nature and relieve s himself in a back alley; suddenly he hears a loud noise as he looks towards the sound he is becomes terrified when he sees a gargoyle monster brutally decapitate a mans head from his body.
Terrified, he tries running away, but the creature flys towards him and corners him. The gargoyle spares Preston's life as he grabs him by the throat makes him swear never to reveal what he saw or describe its appearance to anyone.
At this point the gargoyle rips open Preston's shirt to reveal his shirt then scratches and small cross and in a female voice says
"Cross your heart or hope to die"
Preston is traumatized and confused, but bound by his oath, can say nothing about what happened,as he doubt s anyone would believe him as he even question his sanity.
As he runs away out of his flight or fight early man defence kicks in he sees a woman named Carola who claims to be lost whilst being out with her friends on The town.
Preston convinces her to call a taxi from his apartment. While there, Carola cleans the gargoyle-inflicted wound on Preston's chest, then they make love.
After some time together,Preston and Carola decide to go flat share and spend time as a couple this leads to Prestons life improving due to Carola's connections. They eventually marry and have two children.
Ten years later Preston starts to have tormented nightmares of memories of the night he encountered the gargoyle.
And although he promised never to speak of the dreadful night he breaks down to reveal all to Carola who immediately appears uncomfortable And emits a heartbroken wail revealing herself to be the gargoyle screaming at Preston he promised never to tell anyone.
With Preston's vow broken, Carola can no longer remain human and begins transforming back into a gargoyle. Their children, now awake, are terrified as Carola writhes in pain as hideous-looking arms and legs burst from beneath her human flesh. A terrified Preston pleads for Carola to change back, but she cannot assume a human form again. Their children are screaming in their bedroom as they also transform into gargoyles.[5] Carola, now fully transformed back into a gargoyle, wraps her wings around Preston and the couple proclaim their love for each other, but with the vow broken, Carola is still reluctantly forced to kill him by biting his neck, before remorsefully flying away with her gargoyle children. The final scene shows the three gargoyles now turned to stone and sitting upon the building ledge, staring down at the city with sorrowful expressions.
The dark side is always there, waiting for us to enter — waiting to enter us. Until next time, try to enjoy the daylight.
