SRSU gets comic con

Calling all West Texas nerds! The Sul Ross State University Library is putting on the Big Bend Comic Con from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, the first of its kind in the area. “The library was looking to do more programming and outreach, not just for the students but also the community,” said Amanda Gomez, education coordinator librarian. “We were looking for something that could include everybody.” Organizers hope that the comic con will create a sense of community on campus and help with student retention. The Sul Ross Library put out a survey out last spring to gauge the interest in a comic con and found that students were more likely to stay in school if they knew that other students shared their hobbies. “One response actually said, ‘This is making me excited to stay in the fall’,” Gomez said.
