CHAPTER 1_THE ROAD AHEAD BY WILLIE HANDLER. WITH PERMISSION FROM AUTHOR.mp

Rick Tompkins, a suburban Toronto insurance broker, never considered a career in politics until a good friend, who happens to be the leader of the Conservative party, asks him to run for office. He accepts the offer, with the understanding that he would probably not win, but can use the opportunity to gain some visibility for himself and his business. Jerry Switzer, a veteran party worker, is sent in to guide Rick through a campaign in a riding that hasn’t elected a Conservative in years.

Rick fumbles his way through the election campaign and manages a surprise win but at the expense of saddling his party with an impossible commitment. What makes matters worse, Rick is anything but politically correct. He offends everyone in his path and stumbles from one political scandal to another. Still, Rick has one saving asset: a political party machine that is able to spin scandals to its advantage.

The Great War has taken no less a toll on beautiful young Marie Duval than on their nearby village and France as a whole. Too near the Western Front’s trenches, the Duval farm has been ravaged along with their entire valley. The lives taken of many close to Marie has made her the family farm’s only able body, toughening the mademoiselle beyond her years.

But in the waning days of 1918, a handsome American pilot crashes onto the farm, needing Marie and her father’s care to save his life. His recovery alongside an injured British pilot comes as the Armistice ending the fighting brings hope for a lasting peace. Love blossoms just as the airmen leave to reunite with their squadrons for demobilization.

Does a piece of paper saying the war is over mean the end for the treasured relationships built on the Duval farm? Can their bonds endure as Europe and the village of Bonsant struggle with post-war life?

Armistice is Part One in the Bogeys series, an aviation-centered historical adventure of love and friendships, mystery and intrigue.

November 22, 1963 dawns with excitement in Fort Worth, Texas – President Kennedy is in town. The author leaves his childhood family home for his west-side elementary school. His brother is already downtown with his choir mates, preparing to perform for the First Couple, a host of dignitaries including Vice President Johnson and Texas Governor Connally, and a large breakfast crowd. Later, a morning drizzle clears to bright sunshine before Air Force One departs over the author's school, carrying the presidential party to Fort Worth’s sister city for their next stop.

But when shots ring out in Dallas within the hour, the world changes. The lives of many are altered, some more than others. Among those are the Livingstons of Fort Worth.

"Intersection with History" is the story of how that day steered a mother and former teacher to appearances ranging from television and Life Magazine to testifying for the Warren Commission, and how her oldest son’s life was changed forever by a hand shake.

“Intersection With History” contains bonus material: The opening chapters of “Gabriel’s Creek”, the author’s novel of a man’s inspirational round of golf on a magical course with an unusual dog.

Gabriel’s Creek Golf Course couldn’t be found when Chris Collins looked for a course where he could play a special round. He meets the course mascot, a Border Collie he’s told just showed up one day out of nowhere. Then, a special breakfast ends with the Pro’s caution, “This place is magical…You’ll see what I mean.”

Collins has chosen to spend one of the last days of his life walking 18 holes of golf. With Ralphie as guide and companion, Gabriel’s Creek itself brings out his reflections on life in a tale about family, friends, and commitment, about dogs and destinations.

A variety of characters from his past meet him as the round winds along. They are popped into and out of golf holes across two continents. Some are places he has played before, while some he had simply dreamed of before.

Is it time travel, or is it just the enchantment of Gabriel’s Creek?

The 18th hole is more than the end of Chris’ round. On that final green, Collins finds that Gabriel’s Creek Golf Course exists in neither the earthly nor the next world, but perhaps somewhere in between.

In memory of Dame Vera Lynn

In memory of Dame Vera Lynn

Vera Lynn - We'll Meet Again (1943)
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say hello
To the folks that I know
Tell them I won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singing this song
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Til the blue skies
Drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say hello
To the folks that I know
Tell them it won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singin' this song
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
