Horror as overtaking car smashes into a great-grandmother's funeral cortege and kills the horse pulling her coffin

A grieving family was left devastated after a car smashed into a great-grandmother's horse-drawn funeral cortege and killed one of the animals.

Elizabeth Morris's coffin was being taken to the crematorium in Bridgend, South Wales, when a Renault Scenic attempted to overtake the cortege and careered into the side.

The 74-year-old's bereft family then watched in horror as the carriage driver Mark Evans, 58, was thrown from the vehicle. His Friesian stallion Will was also knocked to the ground in the smash and later had to be put down due to serious injuries.

There are a significant number of daytime sightings that make the Cannock Chase werewolf an exception to the usual mythological rule. Is this beast linked to the Man-Monkey?

A grey lady type ghost who is believed to have roamed the area for a very long time. Since the black-eyed child burst onto the scene sightings of this apparition have dropped off somewhat but she’s still out there. Watching.

Pig Man

To me, the above four are all fascinating and worthy of a really good investigation, but when it comes to supernatural beings believed to haunt the wooded expanse of Cannock Chase, the Pig-Man has got to be the strangest of the lot. Believed to have been created during a military experiment in the woods during World War 2 the Pig Man continues to roam the Chase today. Some people claim that it was just a story designed to keep the public away from German prisoners of war stationed on the land but increased reports of the Pig-Man make this particular subject worth a closer look.

The Origins of the Pig-Man

It is about now that we must consider our quarry – the Pig-Man. Who, or what, is he? To explain the origins of this porcine person some assistance comes from a local legend from the Cannock area:

Following the Second World War a team of British and American military scientists combined to conduct a series of strange experiments in the region. Similar to the eugenics movement and worringly similar to the Nazis methods of human experimentation, the tests went too far. The tale tells of how they abducted a woman, hypnotized her and impregnated her with an artificially created human-pig DNA seed. The plan was to obtain a creature they could perform their tests on.

The story goes on to say that after ten months, and no child, the scientists decided that the experiment was a failure. But in actual fact, the pregnancy was delayed and the child was born late. The creature that was born was a chimera – part pig, part human. This beast subsequently escaped captivity and went to ground on Cannock Chase where, it is believed, it remains today.

There are some flaws with this story. If this was such a secret experiment, then how did the story get out? Who was the mother of the Pig-Man, and where is she now? And where did such an experiment actually take place?

Well, looking at the later question, as we have seen, Cannock Chase was well known for its military presence during the two World Wars so it is possible that there may have been some establishment on the Chase where experiments took place. Indeed, there were, across the United Kingdom, several establishments that undertook secret scientific research. Some locations have now revealed what took place, others remain tight-lipped – or even demolished such as Emmott Hall in Lancashire (known to have been taken over by the army as a barracks in 1939, rumoured to have been a scientific establishment) which was demolished in 1967. We also know that following the Second World War, the United States executed Operation Paperclip, which saw the capture of German scientists to deny their expertise to the Russians and, surprisingly, the British. Amongst those scientists were those who engaged in human experimentation.

So, have genetic experiments actually taken place upon Cannock Chase, or at least in the surrounding area? Is Cannock Chase a landlocked version of the Island of Doctor Moreau with the Pig-Man, the Monkey Man, and the Werewolf all manifestations of some secret experiments? I suppose it’s fun to cast around these ideas and, when conducting a paranormal investigation, you do have to keep an open mind.

So, Cannock Chase – here I come…

A dog that was running loose on a motorway was deliberately run down and killed by traffic police, North Wales Police have confirmed.
In a statement issued on their website the force said that the dog had been running loose on the A55 at varying locations between the Llanfairfechan roundabout and the Conwy tunnel.
Despite attempts by the Roads Policing Unit to catch the dog, it continued to run in and out of swerving traffic that was travelling in excess of 70mph on an unlit carriageway.
The incident – which had "potential for a serious collision" happened during the early hours of Monday.
An officer who had tried to take hold of the dog was bitten.

Chief Inspector Darren Wareing said that several calls were received by the North Wales Police control room shortly after 3am and the decision to take action was not taken "lightly".
He said: "The only safe option was to run the dog over at sufficient speed to ensure that it was destroyed and would not suffer. Other methods of destruction were considered, but were ruled out on the grounds of public safety."
Mr Wareing said that several attempts were made to catch the dog.

"One car and an HGV had to swerve to avoid the dog whilst the officers remained on foot in the carriageway. The potential for a serious collision was present throughout, and in the circumstances there was no alternative way that officers could contain the dog and minimise risks to motorists."

He added: "Fast roads such as the A55 present inherent risks, and to have vehicles including an HGV having to swerve in the dark was deemed unacceptable as the officers witnessed a number of near misses, and were highly concerned about the potential aftermath of a high-speed collision.
"Both officers have their own dogs and did not take this decision lightly. Due to the seriousness of the incident it needed bringing to a conclusion quickly for the safety of all concerned."

Well today i had an assessment  about  getting  back  to  work  at launceston medical  centre, This happened  after a odd start as at 9,45 am i was rang to say their  might not  be able to make due to my appointment  last  one of day and may  run late but then rerung to say ring at 2,45pm to see if can do,Anyway  to make a  long  story short  i later  had  to ring my volunteer  driver to pick me up from 3,40 pm to 2,45pm to help  assessment  people  out,Got to centre, a reall old depressing  building ,showed my i d to prove i was  me then waied until  3.40pm to see assessment  person, a nurse ,eho the asked about my illness and if any changes  since  4 years ago  filling in  forms and i mentioned that  i had a possible right thalamic  stroke,due development of pain in left  side of  jaw which  spread gradually down my left side including arm and lower limb,my speech became less fluent with hesitancy  and left arm more  sensitive to  touch.Had tests and given clopidogrel 75 mg as a secondary prevention. Due to this problem  the nurse stopped  the assessment  as only  a doctor  can deal with brain  health  problems  so i have to wait for  an appointment  for this but still get my benefits  untill  next  assessment  probably at Plymouth.

The legendary abilities of goats and sheep to digest a wide range of inedible materials could help scientists produce cheaper biofuels.

Researchers say fungi from the stomachs of these animals produce flexible enzymes that can break down a wide variety of plant materials.
The scientists say that in tests, the fungi performed as well as the best engineered attempts from industry.
The study has been published in the journal, Science.

Researchers have had some success making usable fuel from food and animal waste. But, so far, the ability to efficiently use the vast majority of cheap, waste organic material has eluded them.
The problem with turning wood chips and grasses into fuel is the matrix of complex molecules found in the cell walls of these tough materials.

Secret lives of badgers revealed

The subterranean secrets of badgers have been revealed by a BBC film crew.

Over two years, tiny cameras placed deep underground recorded the comings and goings of a wild badger family.

While the animals have been well studied outside of their setts, until now, little has been known about their behaviour while underground.

Never-before-seen behaviour was filmed, including the badgers diligently making their beds each evening before leaving the setts for a night of foraging.

The crew also captured newborn cubs on camera, as well as grooming and fighting between the older animals.

The footage was recorded for a BBC Natural World wildlife programme.

Gravitational waves: Numbers don't do them justice

"It's astonishing; it really is." Jim Hough can't stop repeating the phrase.

The veteran gravitational wave hunter from Glasgow University has come to the National Press Club in Washington DC to witness the announcement of the first direct detection of ripples in the fabric of space-time caused by the merger of two "intermediate-sized" black holes.

The numbers look bald on paper, but it's when you try to imagine the scenario being described in those numbers that you rock backwards.

Imagine two monster black holes spinning down on each other in space. One has a mass which is about 35 times that of our Sun, the other roughly 30. At the moment just before they coalesce, they're turning around each other several tens of times a second. And then, their event horizons merge and they become one - like two soap bubbles in a bath.

David Reitze, executive director of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatories (LIGO), described it thus: "Take something about 150km in diameter, and pack 30 times the mass of the Sun into that, and then accelerate it to half the speed of light. Now, take another thing that's 30 times the mass of the Sun, and accelerate that to half the speed of light. And then collide [the two objects] together. That's what we saw here. Holsworthy couple feel isolated by poor transport links

A MARRIED couple from Holsworthy say they feel isolated in their own home due to poor transport links in the town.

Mark, 53, and Enid Raines, 59, find getting around difficult due to Enid's health problems and the lack of public transport links.

But Devon County Council says the funding for public transport in Holsworthy has not been reduced and there are now extra bus journeys available to the health centre and hospital.

Enid struggles with her breathing and knees making it difficult to walk even a short distance.

She has to book a car from the Holsworthy Rural Community Transport Service in order to get to doctors' appointments in town and these cars must be booked well in advance.

For former mental health worker Mark it is about more than just getting to doctors' appointments.

He said: "When Enid could walk more things were a lot easier but now it's more difficult to get to appointments because of the notice you have to give.

"If an urgent doctor's appointment was booked in for the same day we wouldn't be able to make it.

"If I wanted to take my wife out for the day as a treat we'd really struggle to do it. Taxis are prohibitively expensive

and difficult to get hold of.

He added: "The buses come very rarely and only really go to Bideford or Barnstaple."

Mark is aware there will be others in the same position.

He is hoping by speaking out others will feel more confident in coming forward with their complaints.

Holsworthy mayor John Allen has acknowledged there is a problem with transport links in the town, for which he blames county council cuts.

He said: "The area is suffering from the severe cut backs imposed on us by Devon County Council.

"It's affecting people who want to visit the town as well as residents wanting to leave.

"Often the problem is you can get somewhere but can you get back? However, I do understand the county council has faced tough choices after recent government cut backs."

Mr Allen is pleased with the work of the Holsworthy Rural Community Transport Service but says the service is limited by its ability to find funds.

A spokesman for Devon County Council said: "The council has not reduced its funding for public transport in the Holsworthy town area, and we are now in fact funding extra bus journeys to the health centre and hospital.

"In addition, the amount of funding that we give to local voluntary car schemes has also increased in the past two years."

Holsworthy's county councillor, Barry Parsons, said he knew some time ago transport links in Holsworthy were going to be put under strain.

He said: "What we have tried to do is put some more capacity into our transport links with schemes like the rural transport service.

"We always knew our links would be for the chopping block."

A spokesman for Stagecoach, which operates buses in the area, said: "Stagecoach already provides bus services between Holsworthy and destinations across Devon including Barnstaple, Okehampton and Exeter.

"Devon County Council subsidise a number of these – as well as other bus services in the area – as they have a responsibility to ensure that socially necessary services are provided.

"The current usage level of bus services in Holsworthy would not support any enhancements without additional financial support from the council to cover the running costs."

Google became her most trusted friend because Google can take her anywhere on this planet for a brief visit just to pick on someone's(usually an expert in the chosen field) brain. Google did not stereotype this woman for her skin colour, her appearance or her ability to converse fluently in English and other languages. Even though she does not live in a western country nor is she white...she is on par with most white males in terms of her knowledge and her intelligence. This woman noticed when she joined the community called Facebook that users of Facebook are all self-appointed judge and jury with guns blazing at their sides ready to shoot her down if she so much as make a single error. This woman visited many many online churches, synagogues, temples, mosques and holy places hoping against hope to see the face of god or at least experience the love of god. To her utter shock and extreme disappointment , these holy places on Facebook are nothing but a pig sty of mud fights between the self-righteous moron and the idiotic dogmatic who thinks he is above all else. When she called out their prejudice and discrimination, she got banned from these very unholy and such disgusting 'holy places'. The believers in these groups band together and then they stone her to death. They stone her and then they crucify her. They left her body in the town square as a warning to others who may come after her. They call her an abomination. They label her as evil, they told her that she is satan or the devil incarnate. How can people use such language to demean another human? She took all that abuse and it made her soul so so sick. And you would think that these people who sets up these groups to tell others about the love of jesus...these people would understand what love is? Nay...they are the worst kind of self-righteous judges. The worst kind of murderers as they murder people's spirits on Facebook every single day and they quote scriptures while watching you bleed to death. So this woman next visited the Starseed/new age community. Is it any different? Hahahaaaaa....you would think that since they are vibrating at such high frequencies that they would embrace and love her. NO such luck peeps. The starseeds were blinded by her brilliance and because she is not white or european or come from some royal family...they too reject her and what she had to offer from her broken heart ~ AGAPE LOVE. She got added to so many political groups on Facebook. If anyone takes a peek at her info page ...they can see that for themselves. So these politicians ...you know lah...are worse than tiger sharks! She had a blast trolling those though coz the numbskulled neanderthals in these groups deserve a clobber on their heads with her stunning intellect. She finds it so amusing that these men would purposely pick fights with her just so they would get her attention? O boy...just like her sons at home!! The highlight of her political sojourn on Facebook is this: Raja Petra Kamaruddin inboxed her personally to ask for her support to add members to his group. (*gasp* whaaaaaaaaa...) Also, Dato Ti Lian Ker used to goad her in the inbox for his own political gains, I am telling you the truth ..take it or leave it. And of course some of you still remember that young handsome leader of Gerakan who joined PKR after getting to know this woman personally through Facebook. This man and his wife came to meet up with this woman when she was on vacation in KL. Oh yeah...don't forget that old man who also used her to penetrate sarawak politics, always asking her counsel on how to approach sarawakians, no need to mention names lah. That was local Malaysian politics. Outside of Malaysia, this woman has been roped in to campaign aggressively for a candidate in the last presidential elections in the Philippines. Why do you think she used to have a godson who lives in Manila whom she visited for one day and got stuck at the airport? And yes...of course you do not need to mention her minor role in helping to campaign for Obama in his second presidential election. Obama won did he not? As she predicted. Also, she had some powerful politicians and leaders from all over the world in some of her 20 plus groups that she created and admined single-handedly. It means among other things that judge should at least read the pleading papers before rule on it, but in my litigation experience judge can rule without even reading paper and without even knowing who wrote it plaintiffs or defendant and what it is bout. Also one of the law is law about perjury and now it looks like it does not exist anymore: not only litigant can lie even if he signed paper under penalty of perjury but nobody concern about it-no judge nor district attorney . Moreover,even attorney who are officer of court, can lie under penalty of perjury without any consequences. We tried to submit concern about it to Bar association, made motion to court and they all did not find the basic in the lies for attorney disqualification. Though Bar association's ethical codes for attorneys said that even half truth is misconduct.. Thus I was shocked how judicial system works they take our taxes, take the filling fee but did not bother even to read papers- this was my inspiration. And I decided what i will try to do something to change it. it looks like that only people can change it. Because inside the system I do not see any willingness to change this practice of unethical behavior. And though in such small cases as my litigation it could not do big damage, but in bigger cases it can be dramatic. For the purpose to achieve awareness of the public I created the discussion group for self represented litigants who are damaged more by unethical judicial system. After the group will grow I'll try to start crowdfunding effort to help people to get justice and to stop unethical conduct of officers of the court.

British firefighters give pets miniature oxygen masks The masks are ordered in from America at a cost of £90 a set

Pets as small as hamsters, snakes and rabbits are being given a lifeline by British firefighters as new miniature oxygen masks are installed at fire stations across the UK.

The life-saving devices come in three sizes, the largest for dogs, a medium version for cats and little dogs and the smallest for pets like rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters.

The masks, which are ordered in from America at a cost of £90 a set, have even been used in the US on tortoises and snakes.

Every few years the shifting sands of Westward Ho! beach reveal the remains of a wooden ship which has been seen intermittently since at least the mid 19th century, when it was described as “a very old wreck”.

Eagle-eyed: Dutch police to train birds to take down unauthorised drones

As the use of drones increasingly worries everyone from firefighters and air traffic control to law enforcement, Netherlands’ national police have aligned themselves with a group that hates flying robots on principle: the bald eagle. Dutch police have joined forces with Guard From Above, a raptor-training security firm based in the Hague, to keep wayward drones from causing trouble by snatching them out of the sky. Guard From Above’s chief executive officer Sjoerd Hoogendoorn described the project in a press release as “a low-tech solution for a high-tech problem”. Black tarantula named after Johnny Cash

A new species of black tarantula that lives near Folsom Prison, California, has been named after Johnny Cash.

The famously black-clad country singer wrote a song about the prison, and also played a historic series of concerts for inmates there in the 1960s.

Aphonopelma johnnycashi is among 14 new tarantula species from the southern US which have been described by biologists in the journal ZooKeys.

Their study completely rewrites the family tree of the Aphonopelma genus.

One of dozens of tarantula genera, this group was previously considered to include more than 50 separate species.

As part of his PhD research at Auburn University in Alabama, Chris Hamilton carefully whittled that down to 29. He eliminated a lot of double-counting, but also defined 14 species that were entirely new to science.

"We really tried to clean the taxonomy up," said Dr Hamilton, now a postdoctoral researcher at the Florida Museum of Natural History.

"The only way we could do that was by looking at over 3,000 specimens, both from the wild and from natural history collections.

Mouse gets caught in 155-year-old trap in Reading museum

 A 155-year-old Victorian mouse trap on display at a museum sprung into action again to claim its latest victim.

Ollie Douglas, assistant curator at the Museum of English Rural Life, was baffled when he discovered the dead mouse in the trap, which was in a cabinet.

He said the rodent could have entered the trap to make a nest, but got stuck inside.

The trap is one of hundreds kept at the museum.

Mr Douglas said: "We think that the mouse chewed at the label and got interested in chewing at the string attached to the label."
